why cannot a dog be kc reg if only one parent is ie there dad is but not there mum??? do both parents have to be reg???

Yes. Both parents have to be registered. The point of having a pedigree register is that you can trace all the ancestors of a particular dog.

As above, both parents have to be KC registered - although often, it's not always as simple as that.

Some "breeders" will sell the pups as "unregistered" even when the parents are KC registered - and unfortunately, most reasons for this are going to be negative reasons such as:

• Bitch too young
• Bitch too old
• Bitch had too many litters
• Bitch had more than 2 c-sections
• Endorsements on one or both parents not lifted because the health-tests have not been done, or don't meet the breeders specification for lifting

There is currently a pilot scheme with the KC for "registering dogs of unverified parentage"

The cost is £100 and you have to jump through quite a few hoops
