As above, both parents have to be KC registered - although often, it's not always as simple as that.
Some "breeders" will sell the pups as "unregistered" even when the parents are KC registered - and unfortunately, most reasons for this are going to be negative reasons such as:
- Bitch too young
- Bitch too old
- Bitch had too many litters
- Bitch had more than 2 c-sections
- Endorsements on one or both parents not lifted because the health-tests have not been done, or don't meet the breeders specification for lifting
There is currently a pilot scheme with the KC for "registering dogs of unverified parentage"
The cost is £100 and you have to jump through quite a few hoops
