I have a 20 month Scottish Terrier, bitch. My Vet has told me she is overweight - 12 kg - says she should be 10 kg.

    Any comments please.

I do not think she is overweight - she hardly gets any treats, is fed on Purina Pro Plan food - as advised by vet !

What do your Scotties weigh ??

    Do you have some photos?

I go by physical appearance, rather than a number.

A pic would certainly help - although it can be difficult to tell from those too

Can you feel her ribs easily when touching her

12kg does seem a little heavy for a Scottie - what height is she?

Also, there are a lot of factors that can lead to dogs being overweight - treats are only one of them!

Purina is a very poor quality feed, they make Bakers  Can you post a picture taken from above to show us what your dog's figure looks like?

    Ohhhh she's lovely :D

I do have a bit of a soft spot for Scottie's - there's one called Hamish in my street and he's such a character!!

I'm afraid I agree she could do with losing a little - start with trying to get 1kg off her - you'll be amazed how much difference it can make, especially for a small dog.

Agree with Mulish about having a look at the dry food index too - there's much better foods around & cheaper than pro plan too!

    Welcome to the forum
