Poor McKenzie has been suffering from digestive problems for most of this year. She's seen the vet a couple of times and last time was put on a prescription diet. She's done 10 weeks on the diet and, while her early morning bile issues have improved out of sight, she still gets a sore tummy almost every morning after breakfast.

I booked her in to see the best vet (he's hard to get in with as he has very few available appointments but I totally trust him). He listened really carefully and said it sounded like IBD and the diet change hasn't been enough to get it under control. We've come away with some Salazopyrin and a digestive supplement. He said it's possible that the prescription diet plus supplement will be enough to keep it under control, but more likely she'll need to be on a low dose of meds for the rest of her life. He said if it is IBD then I should see an improvement in about 5 days.

Obviously it's not great that she's likely to need medication for the rest of her life, but at the same time, I'm glad he doesn't think it's anything more worrying. And while I don't like her being on the feather food, it's so good that she doesn't get the bile problem any more! He also listened to her heart and said he doesn't think her murmur is as bad as the last vet said, so that is very good news.

Fingers crossed the meds work - I feel so sorry for her suffering every morning!

:Hilarious :Hilarious :Hilarious Thankfully McKenzie's sore tums don't end badly! But I do think that should just be standard PF 'best practice' advice now :Hilarious

Mr F suffered from terrible indigestion - not quite the same, but the outcome is similar. Rather than taking indigestion tablets after he had started suffering, his GP put him on a low dose of a preventative medication that he takes every day. He never suffers now, so my point is that if a medication will keep McKenzie free from discomfort, it's maybe not such a bad thing.

Sorry Kenzie is still suffering. Bless her.
Great there is some improvement. Sounds like you’re almost there. Hope the next few days confirm it.
She may not need meds forever. IBD can settle over time.

Good news re the heart murmur!

Yes for sure :) The vet said he has a couple of other dogs her size with IBD who are just on a quarter of a tablet every second day, which isn’t so bad. Much better than her being miserable every morning.

Oh bless her! Of course we don't want our dogs to have to take tablets regularly, but like you say, @McKenzie much better that than her feeling rough every morning.

Fingers crossed that her tummy settles quickly, and she's much more comfy in the mornings very soon. :)

Oh poor girly. At least the bile has stopped, and it's great that the vet doesn't think it's anything sinister underlying. Hopefully you can get her on a low dose to keep her tummy running smoothly.

    Fingers crossed for McKenzie.

I believe @Rafa Rosie has IBD too and has daily medication which helps along with diet to suit.
