Ah! Noakes, Singleton and Purvis were the Blue Peter team of my childhood. And I always loved John Noakes best as he seemed to be a bit of a rebel in the middle-class world of Blue Peter.

Through the years whenever his name is mentioned his phrase "Get down Shep" is the first thing that comes into my head and always will.
So sad Alzheimers took his final years.
    God Bless John

So sorry to hear this, another great icon and part of growing up has now left us. Alzheimers is such an awful disease and robs the sufferer and their families of so much, Rest in peace now John.

Agree, a bit like everyone has their "own" Dr Who we all have "our" Blue Peter team and they were mine. God rest his soul and all that, but I can do without seeing on the news tonight that ruddy clip of the pooing elephant again!!

I used to do a lot of collecting for the charity drives. Stamps one year, I think, and also ring pulls from cans? Back in the days when you pulled them off completely.

I'd loved John and Shep when I was younger, happy memories of them both.
