Thanks for the support guys xxx- well it seems he is very very constipated and has lots of backed up poo:eek::eek: - took blood tests to rule out toxin poisoning which thankfully were negative and did an all over healthcheck in case been hit by car or bitten and that is what seems to be the only problem - vet said he could be shaking cos is in pain and uncomfortable - I thought it was something really bad like he had been hit by a car :( I feel a bit silly now lol  got some laxitives in liquid form to give him now until morning - then back to vet - if not unblocked they will have to do manually:eek6: - just so glad my baby is ok :):)

Phew - I agree it sounded more serious than constipation. But hey, being that severely constipated must be darn painful. Poor little mite.

When you are at the vet tomorrow, ask about using psyllium husks, soaked and added to his food to prevent constipation for the minute and in the future. Great stuff this - works for runny tums and constipation.

Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow!

Oh, any idea why he is that constipated? Have you changed his food recently? Is he drinking enough?

Sorry to read about poor Jinks and his constipation. It seems this can be a real problem for a lot of cats, especially older animals or those with health issues such as diabetes ( speaking as the owner of 4 old cats and one with diabetes! )
Hobbs has suggested psyllium which can help. I have found that slippery elm is a really good all round product for digestive and bowel issues....mashing it into a small pat of unsalted butter adds even more lubrication as well as being a tasty treat for the cat. Adding a few drops of salmon oil into food through the week can also be a good preventative. You want to avoid the re-occurrence of ongoing constipation because it stretches the bowel wall so that it becomes less active over time ( mega colon ) Obviously you want to avoid repeated GA which the vet will have to use for a manual evacuation or enema.

Another update ;) let jinks out in garden where I could watch him and he bombed off to some bushes so think he did a poo :) - rang vet and they said cos he is bright and perky to just monitor and let laxitives work giving lots of wet food if he changes then to ring them back - so will see how he goes :)
