I just have bog standard oscillating table fans which suffice for me.

One in each bedroom and one in the lounge.

got mine from homebase years ago
its not really expensive has gone from £259 to £280
in the 6years ive had it
never had a minutes problem with it
gets shoved in shed every autumn,
dragged out and given a quick hoover of filters and vents as soon as it starts to get too warm
cools the whole of my open plan downstairs, quite easily

    you could also think about

    https://www.homebase.co.uk/10l-evaporative-cooler_p498276

it doesnt say, but the one i had before the aircon, had things you popped into the freezer, when frozen you put one into the bottom of the unit and it cooled the air as it flowed over it ( the other one you left in freezer, for when the first stopped cooling then just swapped them)

It's hot here tonight. I cannot be bothered tonight but I will get my air cooling unit out of the shed tomorrow.

huh...where is everybody where its hot then??:Bored The SE is pretty ok, Ive still got me jumper on!:D

I just use the bog standard fans too like @Lurcherlad . When it gets really hot I set up a desk fan and a floor fan and park myself right in the middle of them!:Smug

I was nice and warm all day but now I've got my socks and dressing gown on over my clothes!

We have the little, cheap JML cube (cost about £25 two years ago maybe?).

It's ok, but we only normally get two warm days a year!

    Huge
I have it set to 18d and it takes a while to get down there, but you acclimatise as it goes
Sometimes if I'm busy I think
    Huh!why did I bother
But then I go outside and know exactly why I bothered
Biggest downfall is it uses more electric, I notice because I'm on a meter, maybe an extra £1.50-£2.50 a day, depending how long I have it on for
But with the sun on my living room/ dining room area, from around 11 til sunset, (south facing garden)' I'll put up with that
Thunder used to go outside, sunbathe til she was roasting, then come steal the sweet spot, repeat all day. Being part boxer it really helped her breathing on hot hot days
I can only say I love my air con

Thats what puts me off about air con, I figured it would be fairly costly to run.
Luckily though I moved my bed downstairs into the living room which happens to be the coolest place in the house so I never have trouble sleeping during the summer! Not looking forward to it tho...:Shifty Im one of those people who hates hot weather too.

It might be worth it for me I’ve really struggled the last few summers.

    Me too
I have been known to sleep on the sofa and keep it running overnight
Whomever built this house must've been a bloke, as all the bedrooms are South facing too

F4F0B4A0-5028-4139-A386-FF4FC1EBF3EA.jpeg I ordered a little fan that you can add ice or water to. It’s amazing! The boys love it.

When it arrived I thought oh no it’s small but actually so is my living room I’m impressed so far. Also portable so I can take it to bed.

Couple of no-cost tips - draw the curtains in the rooms where the sun is hitting the windows, and if you have a loft hatch, open it as heat rises :)
