    It was pumping its wings in a patch of warmth on my front path

    59 years old
    And
    That's the first painted lady I've ever seen, to my knowledge, at least close enough to get some identification
    Hopefully this will be the first of many butterflies, as I'm planting a wildlife and pollinator area, as part of my blank garden makeover

    A painted lady on top, tortoiseshell underneath. Given you a comparison to help you. We have only seen the painted ladies in our garden this year. Both are beautiful. Hope it helps.
