All the hernias I have seen have been skin coloured. They are little bits of fat that escapes through an opening in the stomach muscle wall, so just make a lump behind the skin, not on it or part of it.

That looks like a little growth on the skin, especially as there was a lump of hair on it that came off in a hard lump.

Is it very hard, or does it disappear when you push it?

Ive never seen one before? I described it to the receptionist at the vets over the phone and she said it sounds like a hernia, this was about a week or so ago when it was a hard lump of fluff. Ive just emailed them the same pics so Iam hoping they will know what it is?

Its only tiny, but I have someone coming to see him on friday . I dont know whether to tell them not to come now?

I'd say it needs checking out - hernias usually push in. I expect it's a little growth like Saikou said, so I'd see if the vet agrees :)

Hi all, took little kittie to the vets this morning, it turned out to be a little hernia. Theve kept him in to give him an aneasthetic and put a stitch in to close it.
She said he will be absolutly fine though
    Thanks everyone for your advice:)

Just a quick update, Ernie as we have now called him is fine. It turnrd out to be an open hernia so it had to be fixed now so that an infection cant get in.
He is fine and playing as normal, the only thing is he keeps licking his wound, ive tried putting a plaster on but he keep pulling it off. Iam trying to keep him occupied with toys.:)
