We were watching Wimbledon the other night and down there it was pitch black, street lights n everything were on (this was about 10pm ish) but up here it was broad daylight

Apparently, the further north you go its lighter for longer than the south in the summer and in the winter it gets darker quicker up north....something to do with the sun setting earlier further south!!

I didnt know this and was really racking my brains tryin to figure out how London could be pitch black when we are in the same time zone. Everyone had my work had a laugh at my expense (for most of the day :D)

I know this happens in other countries, but i never really thought about it affecting our tiny island.

My friend, who lives overseas, currently has no night time whatsoever.

It's probably got something to do with the Arctic Circle, those countries which fall in it have 24 hours of sunlight in the summer, the sun doesn't set and complete darkness in the winter, the sun doesn't rise.

My friend is in Finland. Lapland currently has 24 hr sunlight. Southern Finland is getting twilight, but no true darkness. Its daylight at 2am.

It's always been like that, it was getting light here at 4 am this morning, I know that cause Arran has a dire rear and I had him in the park this morning. Every year we get people in England wanting to do away with putting the clocks back, if we didn't do that up here it would be dark by about 3pm.
