    Hello there,
my lovely boy Sox has started having coughing fits, I know that there is little you can do if it is kennel cough but does anyone have any suggestions? Is it safe to give him a little honey?
    Cheers and thanks in anticipation

Honey can help relieve the coughing, Manuka honey especially has medical properties. Kennel cough is an upper respiratory tract infection and tends to sound like the video below. A lot of otherwise fit healthy dogs apart from the annoying cough will be OK and it will pass, but it is possible to get further complications and it can go down to become a lower respiratory tract infection which then can become a lot more serious.

Coughing can also be another sign of other more serious problems too, especially if it sounds like the lower respiratory tract is affected. If in doubt its always best to get them checked by a vet who can listen to their heart and lungs and check to see if it isn't something more serious then just kennel cough/upper respiratory tract.

Forgot to add if you do take him to get checked out, then you will need to advise when you make the appointment that you think it may be kennel cough as it is very contagious, and they can advise you accordingly what you need to do. Sometimes they will tell you to bring them in last appointment of a consultation session and maybe keep them in the car or outside, so the previous patients have left first.
