I have a Fluval Roma 125 aquarium which has three internal filters. I'm considering a change to a good sized external filter. If I do buy one is it ok to remove all the media from the internal filters, add it to the external filter and take the internal filters out of the tank ? Will the new external filter containing the old media do it's job straight away ?

Should be OK so long as you give the new filter a good rinse out first with dechlorinated water. I'd do water tests for a couple of days afterwards too, just to be on the safe side.
