ok well, here it all goes. This is going to be pretty long and pretty boring and have lots of pretty rubbish pictures in it!

    ~*~ Day 0 (Tuesday) ~*~

we left at 3am tuesday morning for the airport for a 6am flight. All being tired, we ended up sitting poking each other and trying not to sleep in the airport.

Finally boarded the plane and got into Amsterdam no problems. When we got on the plane to go to Delhi we sat... and waited... and sat some more. Eventually, after 3 hours, multiple apologies (there was engine failure) and a packet of biscuits and cup of juice later we were moved to another plane. All was well until... heading up the runway the landing lights fell off! So we sat and waited for another four hours, through more apologies and more biscuits and juice before it FINALLY go sorted and we managed to take off, landing in Delhi 7 hours later than we should have...

    ~*~ Day 1 (Wednesday) ~*~

India is Hot. Very very hot. So hot you can't breathe and the more you try and breathe the more dry and sore your mouth and nose and throat get and the more you can't breathe...

And it's BUSY! there are people EVERYWHERE! and honking because noone follows any rules of the road...

it's 5am and 34 C and our train is in an hour... so mallikas uncle arrives to pick us up and four of us squeeze into the back of the car and we're taken to the train station where we are just in time for the train.

I think we all sleep on the train... I keep waking up at various points to see shanty towns and people working in fields...

It's a 5 hour train journey and we wake to get off in Dehradun where Mallika lives.

    ~*~ Day 2 (Thursday) ~*~

we went to the F.R.I ( Forest Research Institution) in Dehradun. At first we drive up the wrong way and all we can hear is whistling and shouting and there are guards behind us!

it's all ok though. He just thinks we're gonna carry on up that road but that isn't the way up, so he gives us the right directions...

and spend the evening in a hookah bar...

but all we smoked was a menthol mix.

    ~*~ Day 3 (Friday) ~*~

I'm afraid i forgot my camera this day but it was spent just shopping and sleeping for most of the day.

However, in the evening we drove to Haridwar to see the prayers at the Ganges. WE were a bit late for the entire festival thing and to see all the prayer baskets being put in the water, but we placed our own in anyway and it was an amazing experience.

I will post some photos up in a few weeks when i get tanakas and mallikas dads...

    ~*~ Day 4 (Saturday) ~*~

we had pizza for breakfast :D as in homemade pizza by Mallikas aunt. And when i say breakfast, i mean brunch. Of course.

Everyone fell asleep on me during the afternoon! So i shall be evil and post pictures of Vriti asleep up here.

However, the night of the day was my favourite night of the entire time. We drove over to Sehastradhun to stay at her Aunts house and ended up all sleeping outside under the stars!

    ~*~ Day 5 (Sunday) ~*~

Today we had pakoras for breakfast. Homemade indian pakoras are AMAZING. Then we drove from the house at the base of the himalayas up into the mountains. Due to the fact that the roads are so full of cars and people and cows it took us 1.5 hours to drive 3 km. Yeah i know it would have been quicker to walk but in the car we had air conditioning. And we needed it.

we went up the ropeway in a shakey box thing, and saw a monkey...

and had a pretty decent view...

but traffic on the way back was even worse!

    ~*~ Day 6 (Monday) ~*~

Mallika had bad news on the sunday night so she spent monday with her family and we stayed at the house and slept and watched tv all day. But it RAINED and it was fantastic. WE were lucky it rained really because it meant it got a bit cooler. It had been really hot and humid...

    ^^after the rain...

On monday night we caught the sleeper train back into Delhi...

    In India...

    • people stare. you quickly learn to stare back.
    • no two houses are the same
    • no matter where you go there will always be beggars. And all beggars know pidgin english.
    • it is more expensive for a foreigner than a resident indian. a prime example is for a resident india to enter the Taj Mahal it was 20 or 30 rupees. For us, it was 750 rupees...
    • homeless people sleep anywhere

mostly. a couple of nights were spent in tears and it was really hot but it was pretty amazing as well. And you get used to staring back at people.
