It can be done cheaply if it's just the two of you at a Registry Office for example.

That's not what i want though :( i'm only doing it once, i want it to involve everyone!! we're doing on the cheap as it is, Aunty in law is making dresses, my next door neighbour is a cake maker, we're having the reception on our own land! OH's dad is a semi pro photographer.. but still costs SO much!!

    Great stuff.

It makes it so much more personal when you make stuff yourselves.

What's left on your list to do?

We made a deal with the vicar! We help out with community activities and village fair etc, do our church bit and he said he will do it for £200! We've done that quite a lot to be fair, hall we are hiring for reception is £200, reduce from £300 because we agreed to clean it, cake lady is doing our cake for £60 because me and OH redecorated her kitchen. Bargaining is the way forward! xx

Weddings do not have to cost that much. A friend and I got married within months of each other. My OH and I had a modest registry office do with a buffet and drinks back at our bungalow and we went camping for our honeymoon. My friend and her intended had the full works, big show off wedding with fantastically expensive dress, horse drawn carriages, large reception in a posh hotel and Tunisia for the honeymoon. Within 18 months they were seperated and ended up divorced plus were still deeply in debt because of the expense of their wedding day. My OH and I have been married now for nearly 15 years and are as happy as can be. ;)

Marriage is not just about that one special day. It should be about commitment and trust, love and contentment - which should last a lifetime. My wedding day was special and I can remember every moment. I wore a pretty summer dress (that did not break the bank) and a hat and OH wore a suit that he already owned. We still have them in our wardrobes and they no longer fit, lol! :p

If you can afford a huge, ostentatious wedding without getting into debt or going without then fine. But if you can't then who cares? It is your day and the rest of your life, regardless of what it costs.:) There is no need to keep up with the Jones's as they say.
