I was just pondering if people usually walked from their doorstep or drove to their walks?

At the moment I don't work or drive so I'm reliant on OH who works nights. We still manage to get out and explore a couple of times a week but our regular walks are done from the house. Do those who work still drive on working days?

    :)

I was thinking about this on the way back from my walk yesterday.

I drive to my walks, its only 5 mins but so quiet where go, even though we have plenty of woodland on our doorsteps but I find on the weekend that loads of idiots go about the woods

We probably drive to our local woods/common about 2-3 times a week & the rest of the time are lucky enough to have some pleasant walks on our doorstep.

I drive once a day to take Alfie somewhere interesting and safe for his legs.

He gets walked here in the morning over the field and in the evening around the roads.

He'd get bored doing only here

We're lucky enough to have access to lots of walks right on our doorstep. Currently I'm only going farther afield by car for walks about once a fortnight.

Pretty much every time we walk. I could walk from my house to two places, but I don't find either of them particularly suitable places to walk.

I have two 'weekday walks' that are a couple of minutes' drive but they'd take a good 30 minutes to walk to/back from.

    I don't do pavement plods.

I drive to our walk everyday, as I daren't attempt to walk along side my road or cross over it to get to the nearest footpath as there is only a very short stretch of very narrow pavement and then nothing on a straight bit of a major A road with 60mph limit and I won't walk round the field out the back because it has horses and occasionally sheep or beef cattle, so I find it easier and safer to bung them in the car.

I'm trying to do more walks from home, but there is only about 3 or 4.

I would say 2 out of 3 walks I drive to them.

I don't need to drive far to get to some decent walks, within 5 miles there are 8 good walks, and within 10 miles another 5 or 6.

I have discovered a few new walks that I need to go and explore and I will drive to those, they are about 20 miles away.

There is one walk that I like as I can let both hounds off the lead and that is 25 miles away,I usually go there more in the summer though.

I cannot drive and therefore am reliant on my parents for driving.
On winter weekdays (September til March ish) we pavement plod (cruel owner alert! :D) and go to the local park for 30 minutes off lead- the normal idiots who use it at the weekend aren't there then.
On summer weekdays we walk in the woodlands and fields across the road- it's quiet at 6am! On summer evenings my mother drops up off at a walk.
At the weekend we normally get the train somewhere. So it's not driving but it's not walking there either!

I have one lovely walk on my doorstep, but am a short drive from other places. I like to keep things varied for Zorro.

We drive daily. There's a handy field just up the road, but with three, it's quicker to just shove them in the car and run, saves time, too.

I can't drive so it's dependant on my husbands shifts really.

I will walk dogs singularly on the school run when husband on early shift (it's been flash recently as he needs to know he will not die without the other two!)

And then the bigger two will either get a run through the glen, leaving on foot with my husband when he gets in OR, we pick youngest child from school in car, head to oldest child's bus stop and have a run along the lough shore whilst waiting but that is 5 mins away in car.

On late week, we drop kids to school in car and then go on an adventure, different walks, maybe further a field and maybe a spin round the pet shop.

Drive most days, this is mainly through safety issues. To get where I want to go, I and the dogs have had one to many near misses walking on a narrow and no pavement road, nowadays I don`t chance it so we drive to our destinations.

In winter, weekdays I do both pavements walks and an off lead walk just 5 mins walk away.

    Weekends I drive to walks,

In summer I pretty much drive to one everyday.

This time of year I drive to all walks.

Here is filthy this time of year, he'd need a bath after every walk which is not practical.

The vast majority of walks are from the house - our back gate opens directly onto farmland and we have pretty much everything we need right there - open fields, streams, wooded areas and country lanes. Extra bonus being the last time I met another walker wasn't even with this current lot of dogs and the eldest is 12! :)

I do, once a fortnight or so, drive them to the beach or country park to keep up their socialisation and give them a bit of a change, but otherwise, all walks done from home.

A mixture, mostly we drive somewhere new if we can but we have a few parks in the middle of the city and we are close to the river but we don't let Molly off by the river due to the swans.

I'd prefer not to drive, I hate adding to the congestion but it's almost impossible to get to the parks outside the city any other way and the bus drivers tend to be subjective about dogs. After the average walk I have qualms about the state of my new car so I suspect my muddy miss would never be allowed on public transport!

I only drive once a week really, although I should do more as the couple of walks I usually do from home get boring despite there being a variety of routes to choose from.

Problem is that she's a stress-pot so I worry about taking her to more populated walks, but at the same time know that she needs to go on them to show her that the world isn't that scary really

this time of year daily, the woods here are disgusting at the moment ( flooded ).

I drive to all my runs 3/4 times a week.

in the summer/ when it's dryer happily go from home. I am not short of footpaths here but currently no dry ones :(
