I have 4, soon to be 5. We have had 5 at the same time previously hence why we feel something is missing with 4!

We like having 5 cats although I wouldn’t rule out adding a 6th when we move into a bigger place. Where we are currently I think it’s 1 cat per the amount of rooms available.
But I think 6 is my absolute maximum because of spending equal amounts of time with each/worrying about health problems etc.

So how many do you have & what’s your maximum?!

I have tried to add a poll. Hopefully it works. I only know a couple of people who could tick the 15+ or 20+ selections!

Like @Daffne, I just have one now, but he is purrfect. I have had varying numbers over the last 23 years, but most at one time was 5.

I have 4, did have 5 but would never have more than 3 in future. Because I want my cats to live harmoniously together all the time, and the fewer cats in one house the less likelihood of competition for resources. My 4 do all get on well, but it takes quite a lot of work to keep them all happy all of the time.

If someone has a household of 15 or 20+ cats and they aren't a reputable breeder, (so the number includes kittens) then I would regard it as "hoarding".

What’s it like having 5 cats? Are there fights? Do they get on? How do you manage the situation?

Only one. I have had two before where i have had 2 kittens from the same litter but i wouldnt introduce a new cat into a house where there is already an adult cat as i think cats generally manage very well having the place to themselves and might even prefer it that way!

When Beryl passes on, we will probably have 2 kittens again but Beryl is not wanting feline company. She has made that quite clear:D

I have 3 now, but the most I have had at one time is 4. The least I have had is 1, but that was a long time ago, I don’t like leaving one at home alone while we’re all out at work and school all day

They get on well, there’s the odd hiss or growl but all in all they are friends and despite having room to spread out they are never far from each other and choose to be in the same room most of the time.

I have two, the most I had together was four.
I would like another but am worried about ruining the dynamic but I wouldn't go to four again unless it was for rehoming for family reasons again.

Most I have had is 3 cats plus one stray. Now just two cats and 4 dogs, which is enough :D

I have six now since I lost my Rose last April. Before this, the last time I had six was in 1992. I averaged about twelve for many years but in manageable groups. The most I have kept together is six but my present six are left in two groups (upstairs and downstairs,) from when I had more.
