I have a 3 yr mini dachshund that the male started taking notice of 10 days ago. But I did not notice any swelling until 2 days ago. Yesterday I saw the first blood. Now the male is not nearly as interested. Just wondering how early the male can sense heat. I am surprised it is happening like this because i have bred dachsunds 3 times before and the same male didnt become interested until after i saw swelling and bleeding.

I think it depends on the male and how interested he is I have males that will start paying unwanted attention to the girls a month beore they have come into season but then I have had boys who are not at all interested untill the bitch is ready to mate.
