    Hello
About a year ago my dog escaped for where she was staying. Ive recently had someone contact me and said that the vets have said they need to contact me for me to allow them to release her details. The lady says the lady she brought her from has said she brought her off me but i do not know this woman. I rang the police to see what too do. she is registered to me and under her chip she is still in my name and also flagged as missing since 17th dec 2016, The woman said she loves the dog and dosent want her broke up from her children. Even tho by the info i can get she has had her about 3 week but i could still understand that but she said i cant have her back. i have seen My dog up for sale since these messages. The police are saying they cant help. Can anyone else please tia in advance im new here xx

It might be worth getting legal advice. Trevor Cooper is a dog law specialist.

    http://www.doglaw.co.uk/

They have a section about ownership and custody battles in their website.

Dogs are considered property under the law so it might be possible to pursue things on this basis.

Unfortunately I believe the chip is not considered proof of ownership (I know it's daft) so I agree legal advice might be what's needed.

Did you ever registger the dog on any of the missing dog sites?

I'm confused as to why the current owner is fighting you over this considering they want to rehome the dog?
Do you have any other paperwork for the dog? Vet bills, insurance, or anything? Proof that you registered the dog as missing? Anything to show that you did not relinquish the dog yourself.

I dont understand it either. Ive read up and its said the chip is there for police or authority to locate owner, but yet its not proof of ownership. I reported her to her chip and also to local vets around the area and shelters incase she was found. I wasnt sure of which website to post on.

I think its because ive said i was getting police involed and she dosent want to lose out on money she has paid. But that just what i think. I have no bills but have been in contact with the vets its on record what i took her in for. And her chip is still flagged as missing

Definitely contact Dog Law, keep at the police, and have you chatted to someone from Dog Lost?
Worst comes to the worst pay to get your dog back.
Go to the papers and local Facebook pages, but you don't want to push them underground and lose the dog.

If they don't know what you look like then message and turn up. If the dog reacts to you like a long lost best buddy (and she will probably have little to no relationship with her current owner) then I'm sure they'll hand her over. And take a friend.
Definitely contact Dog Law and try Dog Lost - they may be able to come up with a solution or contact more people for you.

If she's for sale, get a friend or relative to buy her back for you.

They have messaged me on facebook so they will know what i look like. They have said i can not have her back that was it. I would pay for her as i want her back. I just dont understand why that is the route to get her back if i am her owner that brought her in the beginning

Give Trevor Cooper dog law specialists a call now, they will tell you what to do and where you stand legally. They have an advice line if you scroll down to advice chargeable there is a telephone number its charged at £1.50 a minute but you will get the proper advice.

If shes chipped and still lodged as missing then that may be of help too. There has been cases where dogs have gone missing and been rehomed before, so its not something unheard of. The number operates during office hours so best to try to get through now.
