Because they aren't bad at all

His dam had hips of 6:6 and his sire had hips of 5:8, so the totals were his dam 12 and his sire 13.

Rupert has come back with perfect elbows of 0:0

    and hips of.................

    6:6!!

That gives 12 overall for hips, breed average is 18 and I'm also happy that both hips have scored the same and one isn't more out than the other too

Just if people wonder Roo is neutered and wouldn't be bred from anyway, this was for peace of mind as I was a bit worried about him looking a bit stiff in his gait and not jumping very willingly but now all is well and I don't have to worry so much!

Picking up the certificate later so will double check that but so pleased his elbows are OK and that his hips are below average!

Argh its a pain! What made you get her hips done, are you hoping to breed and is there a certain score you really want her to be under (I mean obviously we all want 0:0 but you know what I mean!). GR average is 18 so I was hoping on less than 9 on each hip and he got 6

Yes I am planning on breeding her this coming winter. Our breed BMS is 7 so hopefully less than that. We don't on the whole have a problem with hips in the breed it is more for peace of mind on my part. All her littermates have all come back with A1 hips (between 0-4 under the BVA system) they have all been done under the system on the continent.

Excellent results - but just as an additional comment, these scores and your reasons for doing them - re-enforce what I often say that movement very often has absolutely no correlation with the condition of the hips.

Had my boys scores back this morning too (very pleased :D) just waiting on elbows now.

I have suspected for a while that he is just quite lazy in that he doesn't engage his hindquarters well and a half sibling of his had scores totaling 47. Things like him basically refusing hands down to jump onto surfaces made me
wary too. I'm glad we got it done though as I would have been worried and so careful with him otherwise but now I can get him engaging his back end more without worrying there is anything medical behind it :)

Fingers crossed for his elbows, and assuming he got good numbers for his hips too

Thanks! Both are such crippling diseases and can turn up in the least suspected dogs can't they? It's nice knowing he is on the mild end of the hip scale and good on the elbow one, less to worry about as he gets older too. I have to say though Roo really was a difficult pup constantly leaping about I actually think he spent about 30% of puppyhood on two legs :nonod: i was terrified him being as exuberant as he is could have made them worse!
