Hi all. I really need to talk to understanding people about my cat. He is 11 months old now, and he has been with me since he was 13 weeks old. I have worked with cats, fostering, rehoming and rehabilitation for more than 20 years, and I am very in tune with all things feline, so I sensed pretty quickly that something wasn't right with my special little guy. The GP vet couldn't find anything, but I had a feeling. I had him referred to a specialist, and lo and behold! He is the only cat in recorded veterinary history to be born with the left pulmonary artery completely absent. Its insane. No one knows how this little spud is alive. So after 3 ultrasound scans and a CT scan, we have a good overview of what's going on, but no prognosis at all, as no other cat has ever had this. The cardiologist is chatting with other cardiologists around the world, and will be publishing a medical paper on him and his condition. He is mostly well. He eats well. Is bright and loving. He is my special guy. I've taught him to walk on a harness, and he gets to go out in the car, which he loves! And we go all sorts of interesting places. Life is all about experiences. Even though he can only go out for 10/15 minutes at a time, we have been out in the dark, he has climbed trees, pet shops, interesting people. I have a horse, and he stalks him. A little big for prey, but bless him he tries. He can play in the gatden. This has made us so close. We are almost telepathic! Its just I struggle with it everyday. I don't know if he will be with me tomorrow, and although that makes me treat every second as precious, its a tough way to live. I will be strong and persevere. I have to, for his sake. I don't know if anyone else out there has dealt with anything like this? But any advice would be so welcome.
    Kate

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

That’s really tough, living with this precious little boy and being aware that you may not have long together.
Hope he will have a long and happy life with you!

Hello! Sorry I have no advice as I've never had to deal with anything like that.

It sounds like you are making sure every day he has is special though, and from what you've said it sounds like he is having an amazing life with you!

Thank you so so much guys. That means so much. Just knowing that people understand is a huge help. Its not all doom and gloom. He is a daft little sausage and he makes me laugh all the time! One good thing? He will help all cats in the future with heart problems. Gotta see silver linings

You can only share video that is already saved somewhere else. You would have to add it to YouTube I think. Things like Instagram and Facebook videos don't work.

Actually maybe Facebook does work (but would have to be set to public). In the reply box there s a little icon that is meant to look like video and when you click that it says what videos can be embedded.

You can see he isn't sickly. He does so well. His poor little legs all shaved from his scans he is due to be neutered in a couple of weejs. A lot later than most, but what a carry on just for that! Teams of specialists just for aesthetic!
I'm so glad I found this site. Cat people are the best! If anyone can think of enrichment ideas? He has a massive cat tower. Bubble machine. Litter trays full of water in the baths with floaty toys. Stimulating, but not over exerting. Of you or anyone can think of anything fun for him, I would be greatful. X

He's lucky to have you as his Slave!

You are correct about the slave thing too! Though I've never met a more respectful cat! He never bothers me while I sleep, he just sits and watches me till I wake up THEN demands I get up immediately and feed him. He even takes no for an answer. Strange spud for a cat. He hears car keys and sits by the door waiting to go out like a dog! I think he is confused!

Hahah three of my cats go out for walks in leashes and they do the same when they hear door keys. They go sit by the front door ready to be taken for a walk!
