    Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I have three domestic short hair cats (two black, one tabby) all three about 11 years old, and since 2 weeks ago we have a retired greyhound, Tara, aged 2. She's lovely, settled in well, but such a wimp!

    Hi Wilchil

I'm a newbie too - hope you have fun on the forum, everyone seems very welcoming.

Interesting that you have a retired greyhound with cats - everyone has told me they don't go together!!! I have a rescued lurcher who is definitely not cat friendly, but then neither is the busy road we live near, so we won't be trying to rehabilitate her!

    Look forward to chatting

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming.

I didn't know greyhounds could be kept with cats either and hence had never considered one. Then I saw a programme about rescuing retired greyhounds and they said some are cat friendly and that it was worth enquiring, so I did!

I got in touch and was told that they test them if possible to see if they are cat friendly. A lady close by was fostering one and she keeps guinea pigs who Tara had shown no interest in so it was likely she wouldn't chase anything small and furry.

Also, I should add that Tara has been trained but never actually raced which apparently makes them more likely to be cat friendly.

To tell the truth, she is such a coward that she is frightened of everything and certainly scared of the cats. My tom cat helps himself to her food when she has sardines or mackarel mixed in and she stands back until I remove him! Very funny to watch.

We did keep a muzzle on her at first, when we weren't around, but she showed no inclination to chase them.

She is a lovely dog, so gentle and loving, she sleeps most of the day, they don't need as much exercise as people think either.

I'll try and post some photos.
