This heron was on a canal path in Somerset. The photo has not been zoomed in on or cropped, I was really that close! There were lots of narrow boats tied up along the stretch of canal that the heron was moving along so it is obviously very used to people.

I actually collided with one, several years ago. It was sleeping, and I was walking along the top of a bank, looking down the slope for butterflies, and I walked into it. It gave a hell of a squawk, and it's wing came down on top of my head as it took off.

Super photo, Wind1, I never got that close to one either, get them in my garden sometimes & they fly off the moment they see movement.
