    Hi all
    After some wisdom
10yr old neutered ginger male, approx 7 kg in weight, 100%indoor cat
7.30am autistic son feels cat jump off bed and goes to litter box, Adam can hear him scratching and hears flap bang as he comes out
Shortly after, Adam heard him retching and presumes he's throwing up a fur ball
He then hears a strange noise, gets up to find Harvey crawling on floor completely paralysed in the back legs
Obviously he calls mum who dashes down, phoning vet on way
Harvey is completely paralysed in back legs and tails, doesn't seem distressed or in pain, although occasional slight belly breathing, back paws are colder than front
had eaten and drunk the night before as per,
jumped up on the bed around 11pm, as normal,
welcomed me with his normal meow and tried so hard to get up to run to me,
but nothing at back end is moving!
We are on the way to vets now, Adam is distraught because they won't let him in with Harvey, he understands covid and social distancing etc, but this is his baby who ' needs him or he'll be scared'
Which, fair enough, seeing as he only ever goes for jabs, he probably will be
So, great cat minds, any ideas?

It does sound like a thrombosis but that is very painful. He may be in terrible pain but being stoical. I may be wrong but I seem to remember you are near me. Both Mulberry practices are letting people in with their animals.

One of the worst things that happened to any of my cats was a thrombo-embolism during OOHs. The locum suggested I give my boy three days to see if he could walk again but my vet said he was suffering when I saw him during normal practice hours so I had no choice.

If your son's boy has no history of heart disease, I hope it proves to be something more treatable.

    Harvey has crossed the bridge,
We were allowed to be with him
And Adam held him in his arms until he'd gone
My son is 31, I've never heard him howl in such grief and pain
    It was visceral
    Autistics don't feel emotions?
    Jog on they dont

Oh no @mrs phas I am so terribly sorry for your and your son's loss. My heart is breaking. You both did well to get him treated so quickly though to prevent too much suffering. That may become a comfort to you in time. xxxxxxx

I’m so sorry Mrs Phas what an awful thing to happen in the space of a few hours. I do hope Adam can accept what has happened and can find some peace from his grief.
Does he have another special friend from amongst your pets?

He has Harvey's brother calcifer, who he can home and hugged with, not quite, all his strength, after explaining to him that Harvey wasn't in pain and had gone to be a star
They are both his 'emotional support' animals and could anticipate him building to a meltdown and just used to jump on his chest and pummel him, like having a living weighted blanket
I would like to say, and I will be sending an email later, Katie, the vet, was so good and patient with him, explaining things at a pace he could take things in, and not doing anything before Adam was ready

So sorry to hear this. My grandson is autistic so I understand a little of what Adam must feel. My heart goes out to you both.

I am so, so sorry to hear that Harvey has gone to the Bridge.
But I'm glad that you and Adam were able to be with him when he went on his last journey - he will have known that he was greatly loved.

@mrs phas - I am so very sorry to hear of the sad loss of your dear Harvey.

I sympathise very much as I lost one of my beloved cats to Saddle Thrombosis 6 months ago. He had just passed his 10th birthday. It was a traumatic experience to lose him in such a awful way. He spent 24 hrs in a vet hospital on drugs while they tried valiantly to save him, but it was not possible.

Thinking of you and your son with warm sympathy.

    RIP dear Harvey xxx
