    hi all

i am expecting my 1st ever puppy (16wks) at the end of this week. i havent met her yet as i am rescuing her but have been told she is a sweet tri-colour cocker spaniel. got a few names in mind but if you could give me your opinions on your favourites it will really help me. trying to imagine myself calling her from across the field and have been told that dogs can live up to what ever you call them so dont wanna end up an extra naughty pup!

This is the short list (not so short!):

    Jumble
    Jazz
    Pixie
    Bliss
    Crumpet
    Shortcake
    Cookie
    Lashes
    Pickle

Also, if theres any advice anyone could give me on her training and dealing with my cats then this would be appreciated too as im quite nervous!

    I like Jazz
Have you got a crate? This could help with the problem of the cats.
It's quite difficult to give advice of the cuff until you know a bit about your pup.
Someone will always be here though to help when you need it :)
What particularly are you worried about?

Would you be happy shouting 'Crumpet' at the top of your voice in the park? Or Shortcake? Jumble as a dog name is usually for mongrels. I like Jazz or Pickle best. Pixie is OK too.

    I like Jazz.
As noted, it has to be something that you feel comfortable shouting at the top of your voice in public.

I like Pixie and Cookie best. Personally I prefer names with two syllables, because they are the easiet to say, or shout for that matter ;)

Once you meet her you will know which name suits her best.

While I was waiting for my Sheltie pup to arrive I decided to call her Kenna. It means "fair lady" and I thought it would be a lovely name for a feminine little dog. After the first first weeks it was obvious Kenna was no lady. She was and still is a real little tom boy. I now call her Ken. The kids call her Kenny or Kenny-Benny. Husband is the only one who still calls her Kenna when he's not calling her "Daddy's girl".

There are some names it is best to avoid. I called one little black Pug of mine "Puck". I thought it was a great name for a Pug. It took me ages before I realised it was not a good choice of name and by then it was too late to change it.

    Pickle is nice.

    :D
:D:DI've just done the same thing and called my lakeland terrier Buck.

You've reminded me of when i got my rough coated jack russell and my husband said with a huge grin, why don't you call him Ruff.

Not a great idea standing in a field shouting Ruff Ruff Ruff !!!!!
