As the owner of two of these greek guys, I know the effect that this type of life has on them.
There is an organisation called Greek Animal Rescue who do a fantastic job of trying to help as many of these dogs as possible. They try to re-home them in Europe or treat them and keep them in shelters over there.
The post does not talk about the terrible way in which the Greeks are with these dogs and other animals. I myself have seen photos of dogs "hung" from a tree, slowly dying. I have also seen photos of dogs who have been tied up for days and days "guarding" something, with no access to shelter, water or food. Not to mention the locals who throw scalding water or boiling oil over them. Or throw stones and shout at them. The list is endless....
It is not just the dogs, but donkeys as well as other animals.
For me personally it is a disgrace that a developed country which is part of the EU has such a disgusting animal rights record. You can understand it in countrys where they don;t even treat their people right, but a developed European country????
Before you book your holidays to Greece, think.....does this country deserve the millions and millions of pounds the brits spend on tourism?
Thanks to the OP for this post, it is a subject very close to my heart x
PS The black dog and the grey one in my picture (Lilly and Max) are the two greek guys. My life would not be as fufilled without these two lovely dogs, who have suffered terribly, but yet are over coming their problems and are restoring their faith in humanity.
Have signed the petition and passed it on
