This is somewhere else on here. It's cruel to keep one meerkat in my opinion they need a family group. I don't mind them being kept in a group, suitable enclosure with plenty of room to dig etc, proper diet and stimulation. The owners need to realise these aren't cuddly pets either they can bite through your finger in one chomp.

I find it sick how people are exploiting meerkats from a stupid advert they saw. Any numbskull know's keeping them is illegal and immoral, so why!!!

It's perfectly legal to keep meerkats they're not endangered or DWA.

People that keep them right don't keep them as pets they're in large enclosures as close to wild as possible

Well, I guess it isn't the public that I'm concerned about, but more of the seller. Most meerkats are taken illegally from the wild

True I don't agree with that unless it is in zoo breeding programmes but I think a lot more are starting to be captive born

The ones I know are a group of six, all captive bred and hand reared. They have free run of the living room and 24hr access through a cat flap to a 30ft x 20ft pen. In the pen they can dig down to 4ft before they get to the wire. It's part grass part sand with log piles and a tunnel system. They get live food scattered three times a day in the pen. They are better off than most pet rabbits.

She sounds like the kind of owner/breeder they need instead of the people who care more about money than the animals and will sell them to anyone especially on their own. I know someone has them out in a shed with access to an outside pen she'll be the first to tell you that these are bad pets

It's the same as breeding any animal some are ethical some aren't. All of hers are very tame but having a matriarchal society they don't like men they don't know and can bite them. When one bit me it's tooth fell out, luckily it was a baby tooth and was due to come out anyway
