Cuts, cuts, cuts. That's all I ever read about in the newspapers and hear from the news readers. This is being cut, that is being cut and the meat is being cut even thinner but the butcher never reduces his prices¨
They're constantly telling the housewife to tighten her purse strings and her husband his belt. Yet the cry from the high street stores is spend, spend, spend, spend, spend because that's what they want and encourage you to do the most.
€110.00 it set me back today to fill up the car with petrol. €50.00 for 4 litres of fully synthetic engine oil and €28.00 for the appropriate oil filter and sump plug seal because the car's now due its next oil change.
What with one shop and another, by the time I arrived home today I'd spent in excess of HOW BLEEDIN' MUCH?.:Jawdrop
MrsZee has now just informed me that I will have to reduce my spending dramatically. 'You'll just have to discipline yourself' she resolutely told me.
I'm a bit on the depressed side at the moment because life just isn't going to be the same anymore.:(

I was actually paying a large German blonde haired woman to discipline me whilst MrsZee was out at work.

No hard times here. Main high street supermarkets putting prices up but I shop at Aldi where the prices are low.

Do you have an Aldi Mart near you, if so is it as cheap as the UK?

In Finland we only have Marks and Spencers and Lidl, the same as you in England. Sometimes Lidl has quite good offers on such things like electrical hand tools.

Although I would never buy their genetically modified foods, many claim their leg of salmon is extremely good value for money:Wacky

You know that old riddle 'Why did the chicken cross the road?' Well over here it's Why did the fish cross the road?

And the simple answer is; 'Because it could'

Very much so. But, I suppose, it is only to be expected. After all, the lakes and rivers round here have been polluted for 10,000 years and more by that little environmental setback otherwise known as Chernobyl.

Still, we should look on the bright side.

    As we all do anyway........

    We glow in the dark.:Nailbiting

We have millions if not trillions of nurdles on our beaches over here. America dumps the plastic in the sea and we get plastic fish.

If you row across the Atlantic you might sea a fridge or two

    Dumped by America

Saying that America can't just be blamed, lazy people over here see a recylcing bin and throw plastic bottles in the rivers, streams and canals.

    Poor fish and sea life.

Wait a minute! o_O How do you know the fridges have been dumped by America? They could just as easily be discarded by a resident of Papua New Guinea. They could also be storing several hundred illegal immigrants who have scrambled aboard it whilst on its aimless voyage around the world?:Watching

We have more than Marks and Spencer and Lidl, we have Aldi (which is cheap as chips) :D and Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Morrison's and Asda (all expensive or there food isn't that good) and a few butchers and fishmongers.

What a slim choice of food shops you have.

Set some rabbit traps, go fishing yourself go raindeer or mousse hunting? Grow your own vegetables?

    In your original post you asked;

To which I replied; We only have Marks and Spencers and Lidl the same as you in England.. I was not implying that M&S and Lidl were the only shops we had, because in actual fact we have K Market. S Market. City Market. Siwa. Alepa. Prisma. Sale. and a host of lesser food stores in remote areas like the back of beyond.

    NOT YOU AGAIN?
