Must be stunning to watch them work. So glad to see that at least some are still doing what they were bred for .

Are English Setters popular on the moors?

I love watching them work. Still get excited when they point.

There are a few around, especially in the trialling world.

Great photos! And especially lovely to see setters (I usually see pointers or pointer crosses doing grouse counts). Where were you?

    That was in lancashire.

What crosses do you see? We used to have pointers, and do have gwp's as well. Love working the setters though.

Mainly various types of pointers (GSPs/GWPs/pointers etc) with a bit of Lab in them (but they do look more pointery than Lab!). Not sure why the keepers like a bit of Lab in the mix as I've never trained a pointer myself!

Would love a setter or a Munsterlander one day but I'm not sure how much more grouse work I'll be doing - all depends on job location!

A lot of keepers here have wire x labs. I was tempted by one when looking for a dog for beating but decided a lab might be easier, especially as I am training a gwp as well!

What grouse work do you do? Counts?
