I'm so excited :D Going to see the puppies at 2 on Sunday! Only thing is how do I know what one to pick? They'll all be black and cute! I would like to show him but ofcourse being a pet comes first and at 4 weeks old I'm guessing it would be hard to know what one is show quality. Should I let the puppy pick me? Cheeko will most likely want to be the more dominent one so should I go for the most laid back one? I did look into all this before deciding to get a puppy but now I'm going to pick one the excitment has made it all go out of my head :p And also do you think they would be scared of a DSLR? I can't find my compact anywhere and I'm worried they'll be scared of a big camera. No sleep for me until Sunday :D

I would just let it pick you that seems to be the best way. You can't tell at 4 weeks whether they're show quality obviously. But I would get a more leaid back one if you want Cheeko to be the dominant one or you think he will be. I would say they'll be fine with a big camera.

I would let the pup pick you..But also remember not to choose the one thats to in your face or the one thats too laid back i would go for the in the middle type!

Yes its very hard to tell at that age if they will be good enough to show, But you can still look and see if any resemble the standard.for example dont choose one thats to long/short in the neck or muzzle!!
But just because its looks good enough now doesnt mean things wont change :)

Just too add you cant really decide witch one you want to be top dog! The dogs will sort this out them selves and imo should be left to do so and its more than likely the pup will be...

I don't get to take him home for another 4 weeks :( Just get to pick him just now.

I think I've got first choice anyway so I'll go for the middle one out of the 3. Cheeko does tend to let dog boss him about in the park mainly the smaller ones or the one the same height but when it comes to bigger dogs he wants to be boss :p

They all love their food and enjoy making a mess with it. What am I letting myself in for! Feeding time should be interesting trying to stop puppy eating Cheeko's food and the other way around.

Black miniature poodle. Was going to get a standard but I want to learn to groom so some breeders told me I'd be better with a miniature because they take less time to groom :D I don't know what to do with myself tomorrow. I'll bath the guinea pigs then might go to pets at home to pass some time.

The other's have pretty much answered everything, but I would like to add that if you're going to a reputable breeder & are serious about showing, then let the breeder put you in the right direction, if he/she know's their breed then they are the best people to advise you as to how a puppy from their lines might mature, be guided by the breeder & outline that you would like to try showing from the outset if you haven't already done so!
    Good Luck :D

When I met them at the dog show they said they'll teach me how to groom and how to show so I'm sure they'll help me chose :D

ad_1980 - I'd love 2 but no way would I ever do it. 1 is enough! We were wanting to take Cheeko's sister aswell as him but we didn't have enough to. It's more mum I'm worried about than me now because she's started going on about them all the time :p

sahunk - I've got all the basics apart from grooming stuff but I think I need to buy more stuff ;)

I have just been through this. Been on the breeder's waiting list for a while for a "show quality" lhasa. She contacted me on Wednesday to say she had one puppy meeting the criteria available which she had planned to keep to show herself but she already has 4 in full coat and showing this year as well as 4 in training and another 8 breeding stock and 2 more litters due she did feel like bringing on another pup right now. She was only willing to let Nanda go to someone willing to show her as I am already planning on showing Oscar and she has seen the pictures I was first on her list :D

Rushed off to Birmingham yesterday and picked her up. The breeder was fantastic, offering us ringcraft training and specialist grooming training (which of course we are taking up!) free of charge. The 2 hour journey there is going to be well worth it, specially as she is willing to take on Oscar too even though he is from a different breeder. Nanda is the granddaughter of Terence from Eastenders (Billy's dog) and has a fantastic pedigree. She already stands in a "show pose" as the breeder had already started her training and I have also managed to find a ringcraft class locally too.

Be led by the breeder and take all the help and advice they offer, and good luck in your choice of puppy!!

Wise words indeed Shaza, it's just a shame that you didn't heed the advise the breeder gave you.

This excellent show pup that you purchased from them is now totally wasted in your care... or lack of ! I wonder how she would feel if she saw how she looks today.

Since you have another pup in the same condition due to lack of care and another pup who at 6 months old has never been on a lead, you really are a shining example of 'breeders beware'

So well done to you for managing to con good breeders out of their precious show potential pups just so you can neglect them once you've got them home.
