I went to clean the hammies out today and found Sprite, my youngest Russian...about 5 months old...laid hardly breathing in her cage. She was clearly passing away. She was harldy responding at all. She is small and skinny anyway but she looked so frail. I got some bread soaked in milk and began trying to feed her with it. She wasn't taking any of it in at all. This went on for an hour and she was still hanging in there. Eventually, I managed to get her mouth open enough to get the milky bread in. She began trying to chomp on it...but...having had 3 hamsters die in my hands...things didn't look good. That bit of milky bread must have given her enough strength to chomp some more....she ate loads more and began trying to sit up in my hand. I gave her some nuts and she started eating them. She is now back with us!!!! I can't understand what went wrong for her to deteriorate like that...she had water...her food bowl was empty but she had an almost full honey/nut/fruit bar thingy. It is just lucky that I went to clean the hamsters out when I did. I have bought her round to my bf's for the night to moniter her. She is eating and running about loads but is still very wobbly!!
