Le Pen lost with about one third to two-thirds for Marcon according to exit polls.

Congratulations to all French pf members.

Do hope UK will find their own brand new centrist party leaving both extremes behind .

If the choice is between May and Three Stooges or Corbyn/Abbott combo...

    Time for it.

The new figures are 65.5% to Macron and 34.5% to Le Pen.

    Congratulations President Emmanuel Macron.

Will be interesting to watch what he does as he is an outsider to politics, a banker (that was his previous career) if I am not mistaken. Emmanuel Macron has no political experience like Donald Trump.

The UK already has a centrist party in government.

We'll see as he has already talked about sweeping reforms.

Good luck to France and I hope everyone in France has an honest new President in France and haven't voted on false promises.

Where? You do not mean LibDens that Clegged it on uni fees?

Wish!!! I much rather had brand new party than pendulum swinging between Blue than went beyond Purple or Cuba Libre, though love good mojito.

    Vive la France.
In the end country that has Marseillaise cannot succumb to far right.

Good that Marcon won by decisive majority, so no split country.

I'm guessing people want reforms. We could do with some here seeing as we are going backwards rather than forwards. There seems to be a swing towards nationalism again. Just glad the French saw sense.

In government. I refer to the Conservative party of course. Centre-left if I ever saw it.

Think he has understanding of economy...which cannot be said about our candidates on both sides..Minister for economy under Hollande if I am right...
Economy is what counts after all...
If country prospers there is enough to share round....
    If economy flounders...nothing to share....
While our parties fight about sharing the money not enough is said how they intend to make them?

Well let's see in a couple of weeks. By then we shall have the Conservative Party manifesto and also more flesh on the bones of Macron's policies. I'll bet you won't find much clear space between them. I would accept from his campaign that Macron occupies the new centre ground but so does May; they are all Blairites. Interestingly Le Pen campaigned on a far left program; she is closer to Corbyn and the trots than to the modern centre. For that reason I am pleased to see her lose but I have to smile at the press world-wide calling her far right and then the hard of thinking embracing that categorisation without ever looking at her policies. Never underestimate the stupidity of the great unwashed masses.

Isn't it satisfying to utter the words, "We won, you lost, get over it"!?

Think one of the positives of this result is that Macron wants to influence changes within the EU from within the system. Not saying it will be easy but working within the system is far better than storming out and complaining.

Absolutely! Has anyone else heard the term, "You've got to be in it to win it"?

I also think it utterly wrong that anyone would have wanted Le Pen to win just so we were not alone in leaving. Britain voted and now we have to take the consequences alone. This is what some of the country decided now we just get on with it and watch the Tory's dictate. Whatever Ashley Fox is talking about it, I clearly don't fall into his vision of a British person. And there was Boris last year calling the EU Third Reich.

I'm just so happy to see the people of France decisively reject LePen and the far right. There is hope yet :)
