Crimplene is a material. It was sort of.... crimpled.

Barbara Woodhouse is dead. She was a big proponent of using the choke chain VERY VERY harshly to yank pulling dogs back, preferably off their feet.

She was also an "expert" on horses, and famous for breathing into horses' noses to make friends.

There was a bit of a fuss once when, after she'd been on TV "taming" a "wild" horse, it was later revealed that the wild horse was in fact already very tame and rideable.

Hence the term "woodhouse neck" - the nice way of describing dogs with serious phsycial damage to their necks.

My stepdad told me about this - he did some work for the guy who stabled the horse, who admitted the horse was already normal and well trained before Woodhouse got involved, and that she actually worked with it for a couple of weeks before filming anyway.

It'd be interesting to see how she'd have got on if she was alive today and advising people to blow up horses' noses. I imagine she'd have had her @rse sued off by now by people who ended up nose-less, courtesy of unimpressed horses.

ETA - IME, horses that are already tame and generally friendly quite like it, but I can think of several grumpy/nasty types I've worked with who would have ended up clamped to your face if you'd taken such liberties.
