fit for breeding legislation pls sign

    please sign this petition to help do something about this problem and show the government how many of us care for the dogs and how big this problem is.

    Sorry but I cannot support any proposal that retains BSL (as this one does when we look deeper).

    I also question the premise that culpability for our homeless dog crisis rests squarely with the breeders. Being wholly rescue orientated I have no inclination to spring to the defence of breeders but very few breeders put their progeny into rescue. With the possible exception of the Staffie our homeless dog problem is an owner retention problem and not an overproduction problem.

    I think there should be a 'Fit for breeding' test but I would want to see it far more clearly defined and without the sensationalist (and incorrect) data regarding dog bite statistics and 'top ten most dangerous dog breeds'.

    On their website I read 'these measures are in line with current legislation regarding the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991' (re banned breeds). I agree with the points you've raised (although know a lot of BYB who will palm puppies off on rescues) and I'm afraid I can't sign it either.
