Hi everyone, haven't written on here for a while.

Just a quick question. Diego didn't go out yesterday and refused to eat until last night. He has been the same today. He's been very lathargic and looks uncomfortable. I couldn't find an injury on him anywhere, until a minute ago when I checked his eyes and mouth. When I opened his mouth he screamed! So he's hurt his jaw some how, which now tells me why he won't eat.

Before I discovered his injury I booked him for an appointment at the vets tomorrow afternoon. But I worried about leaving it that long.

Do you think I should take him to the emergency vet? I'm worried as he won't eat and looks so miserable.

    What do you think?

    Thanks
    Sarah x

I would phone OOH for advice. Is it possible he has been knocked down? If there is a break there then it is best to get it seen to asap as not only will he be in agony but it will need fixing as soon as possible so it heals correctly.

Let us know what OOH say and how he gets on xxx

Could be a tooth thats infected or an abcess? Does he go out any signs of scuffing to his nails or paw pads? That can be a sign his been in a road accident or trauma. Best thing otherwise is to use your own instinct as you know him better then anyone, and if you think he is really unwell, maybe at least speak to the emergency vet.

I can't tell but if my cat screamed at me I would be ringing my vet's emergency number and talking to them.

Vet Help Direct - Interactive Qualified Vet Advice - might help as you can work through the questions and it will tell you if it is an emergency. I hope Diego is ok.

Ring the OOH vets and see what they say.

I know if one of mine screamed, they would be in a carrier and on their way.

Cats hide pain very well, and if one screams, you know they are in pain :(

I'd be tempted to call the OOH and see what they say.
If he's hurt his jaw and isnt going out and not eating I'd be tempted to take him straight down anyway. He will need some food in him and possibly liquids too.

Straight to emergency. You don't want him to suffer any longer, and it is very dangerous for cats to go without eating. All paws crossed for him!

Thanks for all the advice guys. They said to take him to my normal vets this morning. His appointment isn't until 10 past 2 but I'm just going to go down there at 9. They will fit me in a an emergency.

Thanks for all your advice. He's been by my feet all night. Poor little man.

I'll let you know how he gets on this morning.
