    Hello

I watched Marley and Me at the weekend, and I liked the scene where he chose the dog's name when Bob Marley came on the radio. Did you consider any famous names for your dog? Or can you think of one that would make a great name for a dog?

As a child, I wanted to call our cat Elvis, but my parents overruled me!

Our greyhound is named Nero, after the roman emperor (came with the name from the rescue group and it suited him so we kept it!). We think it might be connected to his racing name as well, but we may never know!

My Owen was named after the footballer Micheal Owen. Owen also has a son called Micheal or Mikey for short.

Angel is named after the vampire Angel on the telly

If he has an ear tattoo which he should have if he has been raced you can find out his racing name and what he won and even his siblings and parents names. If you send me his tattoo check both ears as dogs born in Ireland are tattooed in both ears I can try to find out for you or if you go onto the greyhound data site you can do it yourself.

Thats very kind of you! We knew we could find out, and knew he had been raced in Ireland, as he does have the two ear tattoos, but I've had a look on the official website and came back with nothing, and the other link I had with a number charged for the information so we decided to leave it- if I was doing it wrong, or if the information could be gathered without a charge that would be wonderful- thank you for the information and offer :) I can't imagine that he was a good racer, he has a non-existent prey-drive  Maybe he got it all raced out of him? His ear tattos are: left ear (as you look at him) ER and the right ear- BTN

Thanks again for any help :D

Baggio is named after Roberto Baggio, the Italian footballer, and we used to have a dobe called Dylan after Bob Dylan. Harleyfudge is named because my niece couldn't decide whether he should be called Harley (after the Harley Davidson) or Fudge (because he was fudge- coloured).

heh heh - when I was young we also had a dog named Skippy, but that was in the days before Skippy the bush kangaroo! :p

My husband wanted to call Ozzy "Nanook" like the dog in "The Lost Boys". I wanted to call him Spike, the vampire in Buffy, but my OH said only bulldogs should be called Spike. Is he thinking of the Tom and Jerry cartoons? Anyway, the name Ozzy just stuck somehow.

A friend of mine has a dog called Vin, he was a rescue dog and came to her with a piece missing from one of his ears, she wanted to call him Vincent after Vincent Van Gogh, but he didnt answer to Vincent or Vinny, but seemed to when she called him Vin, so "Vin" it was.

We have a dog called Mutley, after the dog in the cartoon, I wanted to call him Gus after Asparagus the cat from the show Cats - yes I know hes a dog, but my mum wouldnt let me.
