Detailed here: Dog Identification Tags - The Kennel Club

"The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable)."

We use his name with our last name, House number, post code and our tele number. The above site gives examples :)

on banjo`s i just have the address and telephone number, i used to have muffin`s name on her tag but was told that having their name on it makes it easier for people to steal them etc

To meet what the law requires, how about adding your name on the tag too? Or just a surname. From looking at KC website, a surname is required.

Good idea on not including Dog's name, we might adjust ours in future :)

yeah i could do at some point although my vet has said that so long as they have the first line of your address and a valid phone number then they don`t bother so much about the rest. her tag`s fairly new so if i`m gonna change it i`ll wait till she need a new one :)

It's worth noting that if you are intending on taking any test for the Good Citizen Dog Scheme you will automatically fail if your tag does not have the required information on it as linked above. I don't have my full address, just house number and postcode which is fine. Mine is double sided so i also have Vets contact details on the other.

I thought that'd be okay too, until I checked out KC website, and the following quote:

"The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable)."

We had to get a new tag to add a surname ;)

Oh, I didn't realise about a surname and we've just done Holly 2 new tags, one for my house and one for my OH's house. Whoops. Never mind. Will get it sorted later when I get paid :)

Our surname, house No and road, post code, and I'm micro-chipped.

Never put your dogs name on, if your dog has been stolen, it not so easy for them to make friends with the dog.
