    Calling all dog runners...
Hello, I'm a final year University student studying product design. I am looking to design a product to encourage people to take their dogs running. Those who DO run with their dogs, what are the problems you experience running with your dogs?

Any other comments feel free to answer.
    Much appreciated,
    Alice

    Hi Alice,
Not strictly a runner but a speed walker.
You can’t just strap on the dog and go for it. The dog needs to keep pace with you, not pull you or you’ll end up with shin splints.
I have to constantly scan ahead for cats/seagulls (I live by the sea), or I could end up on my backside or flat on my face:confused:
Avoid standing on the lead or you’ll be flat on your face, again.
As you can probably tell, I’ve taken a few tumbles:rolleyes:
I use a Halti training lead, attached to a waist belt.
If your dog has an injury, it needs time to recover properly. Your dog needs come before yours:)
    I hope that might help:cool:

    Main problem ? Keeping up!!!
For runners all the products are pretty much out there and so human wise I’m pretty sorted. The focus therefore needs to be on providing running equipment for the dog! I would like hi viz running attire for him - not full doggy jackets, just to be seen as sometimes have to do a bit along a road to reach footpaths etc. it would need to be non restricting for optimum freedom of movement and not overheating.
Also with fewer pockets for dog bags, treats etc when wearing running clothes would be great to have a running bumbag type of thing which doesn’t bounce around and is comfortable to wear - or maybe dog could carry his own stuff ?!

Depends on you and your dog...fitness, health and fun for both. My boy does a load of activities including Agility, and so while he is happy and healthy we continue

Canicross looks really good, you need some really good coordination with your pup to be good at it though
