Thank god my Island so small! I buy only local raised animal produce and although it costs a lot more i am assured of a very happy, natural life for the animal(s) you can found out anything over here! 25 miles approx around the Island........you will get caught very quickly if your animals (for produce) are not being raised right! And by the end of the next week you could be out of business!

I will not buy ''British'' meat as i have no guarentee that what i buy lived a happy fulfilling life etc. I would rather pay extra and know.

To see that dog meat (jokes or not!) is in the UK markets in shocking, but in a way non surprising...........if that makes sense?!

I've never understood the sentimentality of veggies...fish eat worms...snakes eat frogs...spiders eat flies...Herons eat all of those...

Or is the sentimentality only aimed at mammals with eyelashes?

I don't care what people eat as long as they're not oddly militant! I thinkn fighting for animal welfare, like the live pig transport petition earlier, is good and right- animals have every right to a healthy, happy, stress-free life, and as stress-free a death as possible- but SOME vegetarians seem to be a bit nuts about it all!

creatures eat other creatures its how they survive , im a veggie and i dont need meat to survive so i choose not to.....by the way veggies dont eat fish or prawns etc either and they dont have eyelashes:p

so would you be okay eating a dog or would sentimentality get in the way?

I've eaten rabbit when at home I had pet rabbits, I can seperate the food from the pet.
I've petted the young bulls at my uncles farm then sat down to a roast beef dinner with out a moments thought.
However I'll admit that eating dog would not be something I could do - sentinmentality would definately get in the way.

    Very thought provoking Nina!

Vickie it's not true but makes you think if dogs WERE reared for meat in this country we would all be up in arms if they were battery farmed (as we are meant to be a nation of dog lovers).

I understand that, and I respect your views. My daughter is a veggie and feels the same way.
I know it's hypocritical, but I do have different attitudes to different animals.
I do however believe that all animals should be raised in the best conditions possible and lead healthy lives and face a humane as possible end.
I'm horrified at the move towards indoor dairy farming  Cows are meant to be outside in the fields not shut in barns all their lives.

  18. I have not eaten meat for weeks and weeks! but I eat fish and shellfish!

Re the dog meat market in China! the meat of a dog is very tough is very tough, so the dogs are beaten to death prior to being served to you on the plate!

Personally! to anyone who says they can eat dog I would say could you eat a human! ti's the same to me! well not!! actually its not! I would prefer to eat a human then a dog!

    :eek::eek::eek:

I 'm also horrified by this, and we can blame the major supermarkets 4 squeezing the diary farmers dry and keeping prices low, same as battery hens n chkns in my book, gawd help us if they sign this off
