What is your opinion on Dog E-Collars. I am getting a lot of mixed opinions.

    Can open, worms everywhere....

Short answer, if you have to ask, you don't need to be using one.

Unless you're asking about Elizabethan collars, cone of shame type collars to keep dogs from bothering injuries or surgery site etc. In which case, totally different conversation :)

They are very frowned up on this site. Also illegal in some places. I have used one with great success for dogs that run off after rabbits but would not suggest their use to the average pet owner who will get their timing wrong and probably put the dog off the wrong thing altogether. A good collar is very adjustable and should not be actually hurting the dog.

What are you trying to train? Perhaps we can help you with that?

Illegal now to use in wales, coming up to ban in England (not sure when this is being enforced) and also moves to ban in Scotland.
They definately aren’t generally necessary to train dogs, definately tell the other posters what it is you want to train them for and loads of experienced people will give you advice :)

If by E-collars you mean shock collars it's against forum rules to discuss them.
Could you be more specific about your query ?

you do not need a shock collar to train a dog. The problem is that often the average dog owner does not know enough about training and timing and if used incorrectly , as with any punishment method , can cause more problems than they cure , so to speak .

But we have had some quite good discussions in the past regarding them despite strong opinions :)

If we get new members who are undecided about whether or not to use a shock collar, surely we need to be able to discuss the subject?

How else can we put forward the cons?

I thought there was something that made it ok to discuss, which I think is sensible. Discussing a controversial piece of equipment is different to promoting them.

Although am not sure the OP is that interested in opinions as they don't seem to be that involved in the thread now ... so maybe just wanting to stir things up o_O:Facepalm:confused::D
