I ask because Im off work this morning and so my time is my own as such although Ive got some housework going on...

The front doorbell rang , now family use the back door and have keys so I knew it wasnt even a neighbour..
I did recognise the caller but I just dont fancy getting into a chat with her right now so Ive just ignored it..Im up in the office anyway..

I always check out whos calling on the land line because as with my mum I know that call will take at least an hour so I can better finish what Im doing and call her back, its less frustrating..If its someone I dont fancy talking to or Im about to eat ect I just let the machine get it..
OH (who never picks up the phone) says its rude and I should just answer..
I say I have to be in right frame of mind to deal with some people and I know if Im backed into a corner taking a call/visit at the wrong time I might well say something sharp..(esp if its another could you do me a favour type call)

What do you think is it ok to not pick up/ answer the door.
Is it sometimes better to call the person back when you have time to talk and can give them your attention rather than opening the door and wishing you hadnt?

Yeah, sometimes I just cant be bothered to answer the phone and have to deal with callers, lol! I just think if its urgent they'll ring back or leave a message - I'd rather listen to a message and call them back on my terms, lol!

Callers - I do generally answer the door, but if I'm upstairs and look first and its a salesman or summat I just ignore them! :D

I often ignore the phone or door. I am just an anti-social grumpy cow though!
I have even made my kids be quiet so it looks like we were not in before

Caller ID is the best invention ever :p

I ignore any call that I don't recognise, and if it's someone I want to speak to when the answer machine cuts in I pick up.

I tend to answer the door, but have been known to get rid of cold callers quickly.

    Agree totally ;)
If it's urgent they will leave a message

I never answer the door unless I've arranged for someone to come round.

I am exactly like you. I will not always answer my phone, sometimes I'm just not in the mood to chat to people so ignore the phone, if its urgent, they'll leave a message or call back. If someone knocks on my door and I'm not expecting anyone, the door gets ignored.

I don't answer my house phone very often as the only calls I get are people trying to sell me things or get me to do surveys as anyone who wants to speak to me rings my mobile. It's good if you're in a bad mood and could do to tell someone where to go though :D

As for callers, I live on a farm in the middle of nowhere so only people who come to the door are delivery men or my aunt. I don't even hear it half the time unless Benny barks.

LURVE my caller ID!!!! Wouldn't be without it.

Sometimes I'll answer the door and sometimes I won't.

NEVER on a Saturday morning though as that is when the Jehovahs Witnesses do their rounds and I am not interested. :)

In days of old, when more women stayed at home, an unexpected visitor was a nice surprise - well, usually. :) It broke up the monotiny of the day and was a good reason to put down the duster.

In recent times, however, more women are working and now have to cram more into their day, including the housework. They are also surrounded by people at work all the time so it is nice to have some quiet and solitude when you are at home.

There is more justification these days for being selfish with our time.

Well, that's how I feel and I'm sticking to it. I spend the best part of 43hrs a week in the office so I reserve the right to ignore the rest of the human race when I get home. :D

I do screen on the phone, the door not so much. Mainly because if I'm home I'm usually in the front room where everyone can see me so I don't have all that much choice but to answer.

I want a really big house where the living room is situated somewhere people can't see me and therefore assume I am out. O and a garage where I could park the car would also help i suppose.

Me too. You can see straight in to my living room from the front door and I kinda feel obligated to answer if the person there knows I'm home. HOWEVER... I have a door curtain and unless I am expecting somebody I pull it across and ignore everyone.

I don't answer my house phone, friends and family know to get me on my mobile. And I don't answer the door, in fact I keep it locked 24/7 too. I sound like some kind of hermit, I'm not! I just like to be left alone when I am at home! It's my sanctuary :)

I'm always shushing the kids when the door goes! I don't answer the door at all unless I'm expecting someone. Certain family members STILL don't take the hint and turn up unannounced, then act surprised that I didn't answer the door when they could hear the kids so knew we were in. I tell them if they bothered to call first I'd know it was someone I wanted to see :p As for the phone, I never answer my landline full stop! The people I want to talk to know I only answer my mobile, the rest can sod off :D

I'm screen all the time. I don't answer the door unless I am expecting someone or something to be delivered. I don't answer any calls on my mobile that aren't in my contact list and the gateway to my house is now locked. There's always been a sign on the gate asking people politely to ring the bell by the gate and wait and not just walk through I found that people were ignoring that and walking through, so then I stuck a latch on the inside and a bungee cord around it as a little bit of a deterrent and still people were ignoring the notice and wandering blithely through so now I've padlocked it. Maybe it seems a little OTT but sod it, it works and I get left alone most of the time in peaceful bliss

I have caller ID so if the numbers witheld or an 0800/0845 type number I don't answer. Try and avoid the door sometimes aswell if I can though you can see through the front window into the other room if you make a point of looking. I remember when I was young and my mum had a loan man who used to call. We could tell when he was due because the curtains would get drawn and the tv turned down lol. As soon as he knocked we had to sit in complete silence for a few minutes until we were sure he'd gone :D

I try to ignore them like the plague OR if they do catch me I give them a few sermons on why I don't agree and they get left speechless as they can't argue with my beliefs as mine are real.....

I ignore the door all the time, if its family or friends they will ring first and make sure we want visitors so usually its someone selling something.

I have caller ID on my phone too so I know who's calling.
I get ALOT of calls for someone who had this number before us, it gets right on my nerves because they call in the middle of the night. :nono:
