I was doing research on natural dog treats, and found that apple slices would be a really simple yet healthy treat for a dog. Afterwards I tried giving these natural treats to my Rhodesian Ridgeback, only to find that she doesn't like them.

Hence the question, do dogs generally like apples and other fruit or is it common for dogs not to like fruit?

My dogs like dried bananas, but not the banana chips. They don't like any other fruits.

I used to work at a nursery, mainly growing tomatoes. The owners had a young Doberman that caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage, running up and down the greenhouses eating any tomatoes within reach and pulling the plants down to reach the higher ones. They put him up for rehoming.

Mine loves Apple slice but it's a very occasional treat as the sugar is a teeth rotter.

Whereas all our Labs have loved bananas!

Maisie will eat pretty much any fruit but do watch how much you give as some can cause tummy upsets so I'd always start with a very little of something and see how it goes

All of mine like apple - but Lilly won't eat it if the skin is on
They all eat orange segments, strawberries, mango
    None of them eat pear
    and only Missy likes Banana

But they all love carrots and brocolli stems
    but only Missy eats tomatoes

Harry LOVES strawberries - he will climb on top of your head to get one ( and this from a dog that does not beg otherwise!). I trained his recall using strawberries as it was the only treat he would come back for

Currently I can't let Isla into the front garden as she eats all the crab apples of which there are dozens. I'm sure the amount she would like to eat wouldn't be so good for her and I would rather the birds had them

I'm trying to work out what she won't eat.

Just remember that grapes (and raisins) are toxic to dogs. And apple cores, including crab apples, (the seeds) contain cyanide.

The seeds are coated and may not cause any trouble as long as they pass right through the body, unless bitten into, but I'd limit how many crab apples a dog would eat anyway.

Green tomatoes, and the plants themselves, are also toxic to dogs.

Despite eating just about anything he can find when he's outside, my greedy black lab will turn up his nose at most fruit. Apples, banana, strawberry, pears, kiwi fruit all get tasted then spat back out. He has eaten some pineapple, but you can tell he's only doing it because I am eating it so it must be edible....

He eats cooked veg along with his meal but won't eat things like raw carrots or tomato.

Horse dung, rabbit droppings, curry sauce & discarded takeaway carton, plus various unidentified objects he finds when out on a walk, all fair game though.

Thanks for the heads up on crab apples. It was just instinct on my part that they weren't that good for her.

Holly likes apples and strawberries. She eats any veg, but only when it is cooked, she might eat a raw carrot if she feels like it.
My sisters dog will eat apples, never tried her with any other fruit. She will also eat veg, cooked or not. I once dropped raw sprouts on the floor and Lola ate them both, and the broccoli as well.
