Tiggers.. i noticed that. But was maybe thinking it was the way the flash hit it.. were his eyes the same colour without the flash?

It could be the angle in which the flash has hit his eyes?

Sorry to hear about your cat, Hayley. Where did he die and what were the other symptoms? I would have though it was more than just an eye problem if it all turned out this way.

How old was he and what did the vets suggest it was? Had he been ill for a long time then?

He was 10 months old and they didnt say anything other than that he died from blood in his lungs but i want to try and find out what caused that and not knowing is making it harder to deal with, i was with him just before they took him in and it was horrible he was really struggling to breath and ended up open mouth breathing which is terrible to watch and he kept meowing which he didnt do that much and he had only shoed signs of being ill for 3 or 4 days but the last day we was really really ill

I know it's awful not knowing the cause but without a necropsy it's virtually impossible. Of the next best thing ask your vet for suggestions which might pinpoint the cause a bit more. They must have some idea.

If he was healthy up until this and all this came on very suddenly I wonder if he ingested something like a poison? Of course I don't know and the only reason I'm suggesting this is that you would need to prevent your other cats from suffering the same fate. Do ask the vet about this for this reason.

Otherwise there's no point in torturing yourself any more though I do fully understand your wish to know the cause.

Thats what i first thought but i think they thought he had an accident due to his pupils but there was no sign of an accident as all my cats are in door cats and he never objected to being touched or stroked any where, he was never a big climber but i have written to them to ask them what they think it could have been so hopefully find out soon. i hate waiting and even more so now cause if he did have an accident i will never forgive myself for not noticing

I was thinking about rat poison as a possible cause but if he's indoors then this limits this possiblility. Aspirin could be another one. Can see what the vets meant by accident though because trauma ( ie RTA ) could result in the same symptoms.

Of course it may have been something congenital and in a sense out of your control completely.

Hope you hear from vets soon and let us know what they say!

If you google Retinoblastoma it maybe a possability, first thing that pops in my head when pupils flash different colours in photos!
I know of a cocker spaniel owner who noticed a photo of her pup, one eye was glowing bright yellow! They were sent straight to a neurological specialist which confirmed he had a tumour, loss of sight! Etc!

So sorry about your poor baby!

Cats eyes are very reflective in general, but they become much more so when their retinas begin to detach, for example with old age or because of high blood pressure. At the same time they also start to look more "milky".

However if you compare those pictures to Sooty's, I would say that yours is just down to the flash :)
