I bet my OH never thought in his wildest dreams that he would ever be building an outdoor toilet for a cat. Toppy is the messiest cat when going to the loo, he spends a good five minutes dig dig digging and earth flies everywhere, all over the patio and ruining my plants. He has two favourite spots, one which is right in the front of the border.

I suggested to OH that perhaps I could build a small enclosure and I bought some really cheap plastic garden edging which didn't work as most broke when I tried to push them into the ground. So, at the weekend, I was quite surprised when he dragged me off to the garden centre and bought some wooden planks and brackets, Yesterday, I weeded and cleared the patch and, today, he has built Toppy the largest litter tray you've ever seen.

I can't say its pleasing to the eye but, hopefully, in a week or two the surrounding plants will cover some of the wood. Its already a success as Toppy and Bunty took to it immediately and have been in it 2-3 times today. Thank you Mr Charity :D

    Fantastic!
Is it just filled with garden soil? I should imagine that if you clear the poops, the tray will keep itself clean with natural biodegradation.

Yes it is just soil. Its just the four sides laid on top of the garden so if he has a change of mind and goes elsewhere, it can be moved. I clean up every couple of days. Mr C has his moments. :)

I did think of that and decorating it somehow. Any visitors will think I have gone completely mad. I could say its a veggie patch (with no veg in it ??) :D

I am seriously considering something like this. Our lot are currently using the empty flower pots and the back part of the garden which is now the flower bed of death as nothing grows in it! Toppy looks delighted with it!

Didn't think of a sandpit, that would have been a good idea.

I really wouldn't advise it. DIY isn't normally his thing, this is one of his rare successes

Actually I think soil is better. With sand it quickly reeked of urine and no amount of water could rinse the stench away.

@Charity I just had to look up some appropriate signage for the des res: There were some slightly ruder but what do you think of this for the discerning Mr and Mrs T?
