I have a very sulky fasted Tommy glaring at me right now. Since we've been treating him with antibiotics and metacam quite a while now, have got his weight up nicely and his mouth still looks terrible, I think we will definitely be looking at some extractions today. Poor boy has been through so much, really hoping we can get him through this last hurdle quickly. I think they know something is happening as I've had both kitties upstairs on the bed earlier (rare since they don't yet get on that well) and both are circling me but neither are yelling for breakfast or to go out.

Also just wanted to say thanks to everyone who posts on here with their experiences, it really is helpful.

Good Luck, I am sure it will all go well. he really will be so much better off without the offending teeth.
Oh and well done on REMEMBERING not to feed him, Milo fixed me with his hypnotic stare and swung a full breakfast as I forgot I had him booked in for xray this morning! Fail.

10 teeth out. He is currently charging about after having wolfed down a meal. Very wobbly from the Buprenorphine but hopefully if he exhausts himself now he will sleep later. Poor little guy, and poor wallet. Thanks all for the positive vibes x

Ouchee, the tooth fairy has been busy.
Glad to read that Tommy is back home and in fine form.
Might take the bank balance a bit longer to recover though.

You can say that again. I guess we don't take the furries on for our financial health. Now just hoping this is the turning point for him. He is now sitting on the floor looking spaced out and has peed for England after having fluids!

Oh my, is it normal for them to try to make up for being fasted and missing meals? He seems insatiable tonight.. And the vet throught I might struggle to get him to eat! He certainly has a stronger constitution than me!

If his mouth was hurting before the dental, the buprenorphine may mean he is more comfortable than he has been for some time. I am always amazed how they eat better than before the procedure despite the stitches etc. He is celebrating!

Ha ha @QOTN - we are in trouble then. He had a massive appetite even when he was in pain! I guess having been stray for so long he still feels the need to eat every time it looks like food might be offered. It is so nice to see him eating comfortably though. :)

And the little man is still eating like a horse. Bit unsettled overnight in that he didnt want to settle on a lap or the bed but we've had lots of purrs and snuggles this morning and he seems pretty much back to normal. And my girl cat hasnt hissed at him once since he has been back so I think she must know he has been through an ordeal.

Bless him, I'm sure he must feel so much better even before he's all healed up. Ten teeth! That's some big pressies from the Cat Tooth Fairy!

I hate the fasting too, especially when there are other cats allowed to eat as normal. Freya was fairly stoic prior to neutering, but Teddy the Hog was incredulous at the outrage. In Teddyland Teddys get to scoff not just their food but everyone else's as well!

Oh, and yes, the vet nurse pointed out they recommend dry food to clean teeth. I replied that my own research led me to conclude quite the opposite but i would discuss it with the vet when I was next in. I would hazzard a guess that part of the reason his mouth was so bad was that as a stray he was living on dry food left outside by well meaning members of the public.
