I know Rona, I was going to post the same myself. The anount of destruction it has caused , ancient woodlands chopped down. Lots of illegal activity.
Its hard not to cry when I drive by the places that were fields and they are concreted over and thats just the preperation. Its going to be a nightmare here when they start actuallu doing the railway lines. The lorries etc . :(

I'm so sorry that you are actually in a position to see this happen :(

I want to cry when I see the countryside around here going under houses, but at least the local council has some say in where it goes, even if they can't stop it. This HS2 planning seems to take no care at all :(

If you ask ex pat's what they miss about the UK, they often say the greenness
Pretty soon, if it carries on, there'll be no greeness left to miss

It is sad to see our beautiful green island disappear under concrete and metal :(

We do need (lower cost) houses but there are lots of brown field sites to use, which seem to be ignored.

    What makes me absolutely SEETHE??

When developers desecrate bits of countryside, then call their housing estates things like ‘The Paddocks‘ or ’Greenfields’.

Which is exactly what they will never be again.

Agree with you all! As an ecologist I am honestly in despair about the massive loss of biodiversity that is happening in our country. We’ve lobbied and lobbied as professionals and still nobody listens!

Think yourself lucky they aren't building a motorway they would be digging up three or four times more land.

Also, got the third runway to look forward to though not sure what is happening to that. Feel sorry for the surrounding villages around Heathrow Airport, their lives have been on hold for years.

I'm not sure it will really, we already have a fairly high speed train that goes from the North to London. This is just to put a very high speed train along a similar route to bring more northerners in to work in London. Thats how I see it really. Its not needed. If necessary add more carriages to the trains that already run. And more regular services.

I would never really travel on the train because they cost so much more than other modes of transport. Then there is getting to a station for the journey, and if you are like me there isn't one close by

If you think that is bad Rona you should see what HS2 is doing to the chiltern hills. Designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, hasn’t stopped them destroying nearly 10 ancient woodland that is older than 400 years and also cutting through other woodland meaning the ecosystems will be greatly effected and likely cause some of the wildlife and plants to completely disappear.

I am all for well thought out infrastructure projects, but not this white elephant that will only benefit the few at the cost of so many and so much :(

Yes. but the more passage trains they can move onto HDS2 leaving more room on the normal tracks to move more freight and get some of the heavy lorries off the roads.

Getting lorries off the road isn’t really anywhere near a good enough payoff for the destruction of irreplaceable ancient woodland. Those habitats contain some of our rarest species and if we loose them we will never get them back.
