In terms of actual colours, there are relatively few.
Black, blue, red, cream, chocolate, lilac, cineamon, fawn, apricot, caramel, brown, seal, silver, gold, white... Have I missed any other and sepia, mink etc (don't know if they're colours or just different names for them). Remember that blue is grey, red is ginger etc, so haven't missed the basics.
The patterns give us the variety and the intermingling of colour.
Bicolour (so something with one colour and white), tricolour, tortoiseshell, tabby (classic or spotted), smoke, tipped, pointed, mitted, Burmese patterning, cameo, rosetted, spotted... Again, have I missed any?
So you can see, if you mingle the two lists, there are hundreds of variations on relatively few colours, all things considered.
My mom has:
Ginger/Red Male Cat
Tortieshell DLH Cat (Browns & Greys)
Tabby/Tortieshell cats (Black Stripes, Gray & Orange and White)
I'm not sure what colour Inka is, she was a Silver Tabby and White but is now getting red stripes next to her darker ones and a bit of red on her cheeks. I don't really care what she is called, she is pretty.
