Quick heads up that from Thursday in Lidl they have real Crock Pot slow cookers at a great price. They got the small one for only £14.99 (1.8l) and the one I’ve got (3.7l) is only £19.99. The small one is super dinky, I’d be tempted to get that if my bigger one breaks as I only ever do a small casserole, I don’t do whole chickens or anything in it.

 

A small one won't be big enough for a decent stew for 2 Mrs F. I don't even use it when doing a stew, but use the 2+L pot. The original Crock pot. Have had it years.

I've got a slow cooker function on my Ninja but still haven't used it. I keep meaning to. Any good recipes folks?

 

I tend to just chuck meat and veg in with a Schwartz mix and less water than it says.

I have done a nice lamb thing though - diced lamb, 250mls lamb stock (cube, obv), baby potatoes, onion, carrots, towards the end add a tin of cannellini beans. Once it’s done, stir through a good blob of mint sauce. I don’t bother to thicken it but you easily could.

 

Mrs BBC fancied a beef dinner so quick dash to M&S this afternoon to get a rib and some veg and voila! It was lovely

1 KG of raw organic almonds is £4.95 but I am trying to buy direct and in bulk if I can store them

Alpro milk £1.50 - £2.00 for 1L, supermarket almond milk only has 2% of nuts, no brainer really. X

That's a good price for almonds! I used to buy the Natco raw almonds from co-op (where I used to live) and they were about £4 something for either 500g or 750g but that was before COVID and price increases. They were the best almonds I have ever tasted though 😋. I never realised how "stale" supermarket nuts were.

I don't use nut milk but would be interested in how it turns out for you 😁

I've got almond trees. There's a lot of work involved in almonds. Collecting the nuts, getting the nuts out from an outer furry shell and a hard inner shell. Plus the tree has to be cut back (good firewood after a year). I leave mine mostly alone, gorgeous blossom in January.

Farmers have mad tree shaking machines (works on olives too but don't eat those raw!!).

 

Gather the fallen nuts and send them to @ewelsh

It’s so easy to use, takes a min to make the milk. What a difference to the shop bought almond milk, no sweetness, no gums, Just water and nuts. Love it.
The photos show how simple it is and how few nuts you actually need. I had a glass of milk and then tried it in my red bush tea, very nice.

This wont be stuck in a cupboard and forgotten about. Love it x

Now that you’ve had it for a few days… is it still as good as the first experience? Any niggles or snags with the machine? I am really tempted to buy one.

 

I would definitely buy one if I drank enough plant milk, it looks such a good idea!

I have white blossom almond trees and pink blossom almond trees, so does my friend. Just this month she's roasted some nuts...the pink blossom ones. They are also called bitter almonds and are deadly!! Apparently cooking them kills off the cyanide but she has been eating raw ones too. 7 raw nuts can kill a child. Blimey it's scary. I've spoken to her, she's safe!

Thing is I knew this years ago, but had forgotten. Nature is dangerous.

No I am putting it out for the birds, I just need to find a way to make it into a sort of fat ball, perfect for winter x

 

Apparently you can dehydrate it and grind to use as almond flour!
