We had thighs last night @GingerNinja as I had one of those Nandos bag things in the cupboard (you know the paper bags, put the chicken in then the spicy sprinkles and cook). I also buy the bigger thighs, they hold better in the slow cooker.

 

These are so tiny Mrs F, it's ridiculous! I will only be able to use them in some kind of sauce or they will be horribly dry.

 

Cut them into cubes, put them skewers with slices of red onion and peppers, then grill - boom, lovely kebabs! You could marinate the chicken in lemon juice, seasoning and chilli peppers first

 

I've discussed my idea with 'im indoors for Christmas Day and it's a go-er Hurrah. That's that sorted then. Heh.

Do you not have gravy on chips in the NE? Where I'm from it's a massive thing, it's not like any other gravy in the world.

At the chippy, you put the gravy on your chips, then the fish on top .... simples! I've never thought about them not going together, I think it's because of the batter. Gravy's a big thing here in Lancashire too. My brother joined South Wales police many years ago, and they nicknamed him 'Gravy' because he was from the north!

 

Poutine is amazing - I always say cheese only makes things better and that is also true for gravy. Try it @Mrs Funkin ! Meanwhile I need to get gravy and chips WITH fish

 

My first job was upstairs in the cafe of the chippy. I did the washing up, cleared tables, made pots of tea, “frothy coffee” and bread and butter. Every shift the Special Plate came up in the dumb waiter - it was a massive oval platter full of chips. In each quadrant was one thing: mushy peas, curry sauce, beans and of course gravy. Then at the end of each shift, we went downstairs where we could have whatever we wanted for lunch!!! Then we all sat together to eat and were given our wage packets, £5.40 for four hours on a Saturday. My family would never have afforded fish and chips, so I used to love that Saturday lunch

Oh happy times, haha!

 

Just defrosting some diced goat that I bought from Tebay Services last month. Going to make a Goan curry tomorrow.

I don't know if anyone has used these little Spice Pots before, but the Goan blend is gorgeous. Someone bought them for me as a present and I buy refills for them.

 

The best fish and chips around here is in the bowling alley. They serve it with a chilli sauce. I don’t eat that, instead I have tomato ketchup. No s*#*@ing mushy peas. I love chips and gravy but not with fish! When I was little in Leeds we used to get potato fritters for 5p, and extra scraps.

 

I had a weird thing with waffle fries. They’re new, not bought them before. First time cooked some in the chip pan, they were really nice, a bit spicy. Next time cooked in the oven, they were really, really spicy! I guess the chip pan washed some spices off into the oil. I didn’t know that could happen. Dimbo.

Chateaubriand at Raymond Blancs brasserie. It was mega and served with lots of salty fries. Sadly no free pud!!!! The server didn't read my booking 😐

So this was quickly followed up by cocktails

 

Penultimate blow out birthday meal. Chicken tikka burger (smashed bhaji, cheese, mint raita) and chilli cheese loaded fries with a spicy slaw and chutney and raita dips. Stuffed!!!

 

The final extreme calorie meal of the week, massive pork chop and buttery mash....

With! Honey roasted carrots....

 

We had fajitas for tea, I love an Old El Paso fajita, I'm so common haha! However, we broke away from the normal ones and had roasted red pepper mix...ooooh it was spicy. Yummo. D preferred the normal ones I think.

There was a huge jug of gravy!

 

Mmmmm. Delicious organic chipolatas, mash (heavy on the butter)…and a gallon of gravy. I even had some vegetables. Oh it was yummo.

 

Daughter cooked for us tonight, “elevated sausage and mash”. Not sure what was “elevated” about it, but it was lovely. Followed by pear and raspberry crumble with ice cream, also lovely, but we all forgot to take a pic of it! Doh!

 

Well I’ve definitely declared winter, quorn chicken and leek pie. Yum.

Something new tonight, green bean, asparagus, goats cheese and veggie bacon risotto. I’ve not made many risottos and it was a bit overdone I think, but still was very tasty.
