As many of you will know I love a good clean. I thought it would be nice to start a thread where we can share tips, advice, products and gadgets!

I recently found this and have used it to clean stubborn residues off my oven - but you can use it for any kitchen item. I used it on my La Cruset enamel pots too and they came up good as new. You don't have to leave it on long, just put a bit on the scouring pad and scrub away. But you definitely need to wear gloves!

Im interested in getting a floor mop to clean the Amtico floor in the kitchen - any ideas what I should get?

Hmm

Well I don’t do corded anymore as the kitchen is too big to keep having to un plug and re plug.

The price of the bottle is similar to the others but they are usually decent size bottles. You can use any detergent designed for a wet/dry machine (the main thing is that they are non foaming). I’m using the Bissel one atm.

I’m surprised it leaves it so wet. The Tineco doesn’t dry either but within a few minutes the floor is pretty dry. I use hot water. And I don’t worry about the cats walking on it.

Did it vac up ok?

I sent an anti hair wrap cordless back to shark as I found it too heavy to use. They were ok refunding.

@huckybuck do you still use your robovacs or have they been pensioned off?:geek:

And the subject of floor cleaners got me thinking of @Jaf
@Jaf Where are you? Are you OK?
I use my robots loads @SbanR. They do all the carpet areas and the mopping one I use downstairs when Mr HB isn’t around. The noise drives him mad even though it isn’t that noisy.

The Tineco I use daily if I haven’t been able to use the robot one. I just make him put up with that as it doesn’t take me as long as the robot.

That's interesting about the others leaving the floor wet.. maybe my expectations are a bit on the high side. It wasn't wringing wet but it left some areas wetter than others if that makes sense - well, enough for me to think it needed drying up. I was more concerned about it being Zoflora-type floor cleaner, if it was just wet (and I knew it was safe) I wouldn't worry so much.

The other thing was the size of the head - it reminded me of a very old fashioned hoover with a bag my Nan had in the early 70s, just very big! Plus the roll does not go right to the edge of the head, so there's a strip along the wall/skirting board you can't mop which is a bit annoying. I'll give it a proper go again at the weekend.

The Tineco doesn’t go right to the edge either (there’s about half an inch) but it does manage to vac the very edge (better than my Dyson!!!).

The head isn’t too large.

If you don’t get on with the Shark don’t be frightened to send it back to them.

I’ve been using the Karcher mop for a couple of years and find it very efficient. You can put your own cleaner in, but I do use there stone cleaner and “mops” on the tiled floors and Universal cleaner and normal “mops” on the laminate, or just water which also works well.

It goes to the edge, picks up dirt and dirty water as it goes and although not completely dry, it’sdryer than using a mop.

It’s also cordless 😊😊.

With the robot vac (which also washes, but not as well) it’s the only way I’ve found to keep white Matt tiles looking white!

I had a second try with the Shark yesterday and admittedly, it was much better. It didn't seem to leave the floors as wet (although I did still go over them with a dry mop afterwards). Maybe because the roller was new and wasn't absorbent?

Anyway, laundry today. I have to have nice smelling washing. I bought this new one the other day. My entire house smells amazing and it really lasts!

Ooh I need that fabric conditioner!!! I have a funny itchy rash appeared on my face (thought it was bites but it’s mirrored) and I suddenly realised it coincided with me changing my fabric conditioner to fairy which is nice to smell but I don’t think suits me! Comfort has always been ok so will give this a go.

I may have said before - but just why is it so hard for the companies who make these products to have matching or at least complementary scents in detergent and conditioner? I'm using Surf and Comfort with coconut perfume - and I love coconut - but I haven't found any others.

@JoanneF the only other coconut detergent I have found is Aldi's Almat - it's really nice, comes in liquid and (I think) pods.

There is one brand I know that does matching, which is Tallow & Ash :)

Lol I love the new smells!!
Personally I don't like pods or tablets, they never dissolve for me on a quick wash. Everything gets done at 40 plus at mine too! :)

Depends what needs cleaning off it @BarneyBobCat ? They do little blocks for cleaning nubuck, or you can use a suede/nubuck brush?

If it’s a pint of Guinness, it probably won’t clean. Husband had some pale suede shoes ruined once by someone dropping red wine on them.

One thing that's really worked for me is using those sticky roller things to get hair off furniture. Saves me from vacuuming every day!

Also, I've heard some people mention using enzyme cleaners for accidents - anyone tried those? Do they work as well as they say? I'm curious to give it a shot.

Oh, and speaking of cleaning, has anyone found a magic solution for litter box odors? Mine seems to have a life of its own sometimes! I've tried a few things, but nothing seems to last. Maybe I need to call in the pros from commercial-cleaning-atlanta.com, ha!

I've always found Biotex to be very effective both for stain and odour removal on most fabrics (good idea to test a small area first).

For carpets nothing beats the Dr Beckman stain removers -especially the one for pet stains (urine, vomit, hairballs, poo stains etc !)

Someone asked me ages ago about Purdey & Fig, was it you @Ali71 I have been using it for 3 months and I still love it, the scent is gorgeous and very safe with pets. I do go through more than the recommended subscription but I love it. I dont rate the bathroom cleaner much so am just sticking with the counter cleaner. I dont use it on my floors either as i stick with vinegar and dish soap. You can buy P&F through amazon if you dont want to subscribe. X

I have only used the counter/multi surface cleaner but not keen on the residue it leaves (probably just the oil from the essential oils) it's definitely no good for mirrors as they claim. I'm just using it up on furniture/paintwork.

Neat do a bathroom cleaner which is very good. I now have the bathroom, multi-surface and daily shower cleaners which I love. Maybe not as natural as P&F but still free of all the nasties.

Like you I use dish soap and vinegar on the floors ;) Actually I'm trying to decide on washing-up liquid but they're all so expensive! I've looked at SMOL, Miniml, Bower, Faith in Nature, Kit&Kin and a few more. Any recommendations?
