It was Whitehaven Carnival today. meaning we were stranded in town for quite a while as the buses are stopped for a few hours.

We saw quite a bit of it, & I know Im gonna sound ancient here, but they are nothing like they used to be, I can remember being a kid & nearly every village around here had it's own carnival & spend weeks before making costumes & decorating floats, even villages used to compete against one another, & there'd be a big party with stalls & games etc on a local playing field.

Todays carnivals are all about advertising, not about the competition of who can have the best float/costume.

Yes the kids looked cute in their dance tutu's etc, but they only dance on one section of the route & just walk the rest of the way.

There were a few bands & drums etc, but even Whitehaven carnival is no where near as big as it used to be, people just dont seem to be as interested or as committed as they used to be.
