I've just seen an advert for miniture german shepherds, the advert states mum is a jack russel.
I don't want a debate about crossbreeding, i'm just curious as to whether this would be possible.

    german shepherd x jack russell???

it's crazy. i've also heard of labs x min poodles. how is that possible?

i am not against crossbreeding at all, but there must be health problems with a mix of two breeds of different sizes.

If mum was a jackrussell its awful. You should'nt risk the pups being to big for her to have. They just asking for trouble!!!

if the mother is the jrt than whoever bred her to a gsd wants shooting! you should never breed a larger breed dog to a smaller breed bitch and the size difference of these two breeds is massive:mad: i would think the bitch would have suffered dystocia and needed a ceasarian if she survived at all.

I agree, the pups would have had to have been born very early by C section inn order not to crush the mum internally

i'd want to see proof and then give them a good slap lol!:)

I know of an accidental mating of a 15 pound mutt (rat terrier mix) with a 55 pound girl (another mutt). That was more than 30 years ago and I saw the tie, as it was at a friends home. The girl, apparently, backed right up to him on the sofa and voila!.

The owners didn't think it was possible either, but then had a litter of pups to contend with.

Yeh it is possible for a small dog to go with a large bitch. Like they say in jurassic park,'nature finds a way'. :)

Had the dad been jack russel and mum shepherd I would have said yes but jack Russel mum to dad shepherd?! if it's true she's lucky to be alive. I know of some staff x sheps and mum was staff and had to have a c-section :frown: poor thing

I'm not against crossbreeding i'm against stupid crossbreeding.

Maybe they have dwarfism and the breeder is trying to pass it off as a cross. I friend of mine has a GSD with dwarfism- he is so tiny and a very poorly little guy. :(

Sick :(. Poor girl. The other way around not so bad AI or well a male dog could probably achieve it somehow. I don't mind responsible crossbreeding but this is just sick clearly not actually caring about their dog

Could be, it's not unusal for jack russels to come in black and tan so maybe the dog got loose has had pups and the owner thinks they are x with a german shepherd  who knows, might be worth asking about it as now i'm curious to hell if they are mixed to shepherd or just thinks they are because they are black and tan.
